Well my 9 year old Rottie Dakota scared the crap out of me again this morning. Was screaming in pain without a limp.
He has had some issues with his front left leg (arthritis) but never without guarding or favoring it. We had no "work" or walks the night before that would aggravate it.
Gave him a Rimadyl and all seemed good and fine. We admin. the Rx...PRN.
Curious if there were any suggestions or alternate treatment for this intermittent problem.
He has been on the Glucosamine/Chondroitin since he was 3.
No other problems to date except him slowing down...long naps, and the short walks that we take so we do not aggrivate his arthritis.
We have also been avid swimmers, and the neighbors pool affords us good fun...to keep from further atrophy.

Thanks in advance

Re: Dakota

I don't know if you'd be interested in adding another nutraceutical (spelling?) to Dakota's regime, but I had an older collie with severe arthritis of the back and her vet recommended a choline-loading supplement called Cholodin. It wasn't a miracle, but it did definitely help her, and probably extended her life. It's a vitamin and mineral supplement that is given every day, but she thought it was tasty enough to count as a treat!

Hope that helps. Good luck.
