Re: Moka's time is almost near

I want to personally thank each and everyone of you for your thoughts and comments it truly means the world to me.

Today was the first day she ate and boy was she hungry and she also got up on her own with no crying, screaming,or whining. She came over by me and licked my face. Every morning before I head off to work I usually sing her the song "You Are My Sunshine My Only Sunshine" and she will just sit there and lick you till the song ends. It is the most precious thing.

But I have to realize this was only one good day out of how many bad days. She still refuses to jump on the spare bed which Dave and I took off of the frame and put it on the ground for her. She also will not jump onto the couch anymore so that's why my gut is still telling me something isn't right with her. She loves to snuggle at night on the couch with me and just goes in the master bedroom to lay on her dog bed.

Dave is telling me to do the adiquin(sp?) shots and take it one day at a time. He is having a hard time with this as this is his buddy. Every morning Dave and Moka get up very early before he leaves for work to spent some quality time together cause after work he doesn't have the time as he has to many side jobs to do. The have a very special relationship.

Like I said I want to THANK each and everyone of you for all your comments. It means allot to me. Everyday is precious to me and I hold that close in my heart as should everyone with an animal cause you just never know when that time is near.

Re: Moka's time is almost near

Michele,
I had a male named Paulie years ago with terrible HD and degenerative spine issues as well. Poor breeding, of course. But I was at the same place as you are now and didn't want to prolong his suffering for my own needs.

Adequan had just become available and my vet encouraged me to try it. I was tired and worn out from trying and just wanted the old man to have some peace. But my vet told me to just give it a chance and if mobility and quality of life wasn't vastly improved quickly then I would know to put him down.

I tried the Adequan and it really did work wonders and I had the great joy of having another 1+ with my boy. The shots were not debilitating, very quickly administered and Paulie's response was strong.

This is just my experience, but reading through the thread I could feel how you have been agonizing so I thought I would post.

I just lost my Ester last month, so my heart just reaches out to you know.

Re: Moka's time is almost near

I just wanted to offer my prayers for you and Moka. I too have a sweet girl with severe HD, from a puppy mill. We did do the adequan injections, and have been for about a year now with great success. We also use glucosamine/chondrotin/ MSM/etc, and rimadyl. She has her good days, and bad days. I know her time will come some day when she can no longer get around. I just hope I can say, as you can, that you have given her the best, and she has a beautiful, peaceful trip over that rainbow bridge. Pat

Re: Moka's time is almost near

Just to update everyone. I did go on Saturday to do the adiquin injection and so far she is eating but is very fussy. She picks her food and will now pull out her pills and spit them on the floor. She is getting up on her own but does struggle. She continues to whine when getting up or moving side to side. Her excerise is limited to the back yard walks only.

So I go again this week for another injection and will see how things go. I am still trying to keep my fingers crossed and thinking positive thoughts.

Thanks everyone for the wishes it truely does help.

Re: Moka's time is almost near

There is another product you might want to check into to see if it might help her. I have a friend with a 12 year old male who has severe problems with his spine and it has boosted him up tremendously. She uses it along with the adequan injections.

When she tried to wean him off of it, he quit eating because the pain came back. When she put him back on it, he started eating again and gets around much better.

It's call Seabiotics. http://home.seabiotics.com/Heartland

I don't have any claim to it, but he has done wonderfully on it. If you need additional info on ordering or anything, let me know and I can get the info from my friend.

Keeping her in our thoughts!

Re: Moka's time is almost near

I am glad to hear that you are trying the adiquin, we will keep our fingers crossed for positive results!

I always wrap pills up in either raw ground beef or in a small wad of bread with peanut butter in the middle. I usually have the three dog's lined up for the "treats" (but the downfall is I have to remember which of the 3 has the pills in it) . Good luck to you both and thank you so very much for sharing your experience with Moka. If it changes just one mind...

Re: Moka's time is almost near

I'm keeping you and Moka in my thoughts... I can relate well to what you are going through.

I haven't heard of Adequan or Seabiotics however I'm planning to read on both and consult with my vet. Brandi has been on Rimadyl for over a year now, and she doesn't whine, but she can't get up from the tiles/hardwood without assistance and she moves slowly. She doesn't tolerate much walking at all. She'd prefer to lay on the grass or stay home in her comfy beds than go for a walk, so she must feel pain from exercise. If the above can make her time here more comfortable, then I'm for it.

Re: Moka's time is almost near

Just a little tip for those pills or tablets.....get a small pack of cream cheese.
Put a little on the tabs and zip... zat the're gone. They don't waste time
licking the cheese off. Worked twenty years for me. Those adequan
shots did wonders for my Rufus and Bear. Rather costly but was well
worth every penny.

Still praying for a good out come. Hugs to you both.
