poisoned dog

can anybody relate to their dog being poisoned, either intentionally or accidental..? I am looking for clues and symptoms...my Rusty was poisoned the vet said...blood tests revealed liver and kidney damage, as well as excessive vomiting, drooling.... (without diarrhea).. what could it have been???..for the sake of Rusty's body, I opted not to have an autopsy done..I wanted him to pass on, without invasion to his body...has anyone had this happen to them?..please reply, thanks..Rusty's mom...

I'm so very sorry! I have no experience with poison, but still wanted to offer my sympathy.

Re: poisoned dog

you see, what baffles me, is that there is nothing for the dog to get into...there are mushrooms in the woods, but they are untouched, and my other dog is not curious in that way to eat them, for him to get sick as well..we have snakes, but no evidence of bites...no dead animals, and no antifreeze...also stange, vomit showed no signs of foreign substance, other than grass, dog food or bile!!!..I will never know, but I keep on because I don't want this to happen again and I want answers I know I'll never get!!!

Re: poisoned dog

Had the grass been treated with pesticides or fertilizer? Both of those can be toxic as well. I'm sorry you lost your Rusty, and am glad your other dog has survived it.

Re: poisoned dog

moondog...no, I don't have much of a lawn..as a matter of fact, I need to fertilize so that I can grow grass, but have not yet done so...I was going to cage the dogs for several days afterward anyway, because I know that the fertilizer is toxic for several days afterward..needs to be absorbed into the soil via water, rain etc...the grass they eat is in the woods, you know, clumps of wild grass..just wish I knew more..I'm pissed, and I think it was intentional, somehow...

Re: poisoned dog

yeah, I think the same thing, but how come there was nothing strange in their puke?.. I looked for foreign stuff; meat, hair, bones, shrooms, frogs and anything else, but saw nothing but grass and undigested dog food and bile!..I have not fed King dog food since then..the vet said bland diet of boiled chicken and rice..I have thought about their dog food as the culprit, but they've been eating the same food for many months now, with no ill effects..hmmmm

Re: poisoned dog

Do you have poisonous toads over there. We have them here in certain parts of Australia and dogs have died as a result of picking these toads up or even licking them. Fortunately they are not in the state where I live......yet.

I am so sorry for your loss of Rusty.

Re: poisoned dog

Mushroom poisoning is the "perfect" poison. They break down fast usually and are totally undetectable

Re: poisoned dog

I dont understand why you would not do a Post Mortem. You would be able to then be able to formualte a hypotheis, and perhap track down the perpertrator, be it malious or accidental. If you new the source of the poison , you might also
be able tp prevent or stop it from happening again. I persoanlly think is ridiculos to gueess how he injested the poison with out first attempting to learn the facts in a scientific manner.I think it would a greater service to "Rusty"
Im sorry for your loss

Re: poisoned dog

thanks for the reply...I fought this issue hand over fist!!!...I just could not not bear it...the vet asked me if I wanted his ashes...all I want to remember is those great memories he gave to me..also, it was an issue of $$$, which I just dried out my pockets, just to give him a chance at survival...I am dry, and Yes, it hurts!..If I had money to try to pull him through, I would have given it all, but I don't...also, the vet said that even with an autopsy, at the stage Rusty was at, there was no guarentee that she would ever know, what exactly contributed to his illness/poisoning...His system had been flushed excessively, and only the toxic remains of internal organ damage, were present, she believed.. I do appreciate your opinon, and your respect for Rusty...reply...
