Year shots and X-Rays

I am taking Arwen to a new vet next week, the last one was more of a "Cow/Horse'' Dr who did pets as extra (I didn't realize that when we took Arwen there). This vet has come highly recomended and the nurse was really nice about answering my quesitons on the phone ("Is this Dr Conmfortable with large dogs? Does he have any particular breeds hes had bad experiences with?") We will be getting Arwen her year shot and a hip x-ray. (this vet also does OFA so if I/Arwen like him then we already know where to go when she turns 2).

What can I expect from the X-ray? Will the Dr usually read them to you when you come to pick the dog up or does it take awhile to get these back? What are some good questions to ask the vet about her hips, and what I can do to make sure if there is a problem it doesn't get worse? I am looking online and trying to build up some questions to ask him, I want to go in ready! This is my first dog and I want to take care of her the best I can, I already botched the "buy from a responsible breeder" thing, and I want to do better for Arwen's future.
