Chica has Myasthenia Gravis

Anyone have any experience with this? I'm pretty upset at the moment. I just got back from the vet. She had originally be diagnosed with kennel cough (not my regular vet). She's coughing and vomiting up her food due to the esphogus (sp) not working properly. He has suggested feeding her small frequent meals from a elevated position to help her with the vomiting. He said it may never get worse or could get alot worse. I'm in shock right now.

My life is not going so well right now...this is just another thing on top of many things.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I know people who have it...but I've ever heard of a dog having it...Live and learn!
Did the Vet give you any medication to help with the muscle control?

No meds yet he just wants to see if the elevated feeding will help with the vomiting. He's going to call me next week.

Re: Chica has Myasthenia Gravis

Hi
My Rott was diagnosed with megasopogus. He did not however have focalized mystenia gravis. We found feeding him small meals and keeping him elevated for at least 10 minutes helped the food go down Was a radigraph done , to determine the extent of the enlargement of the esophogus(if any) . We evenutally built a feeding table that was shoulder height and cut 2 holes in the top. The holes kept the bowls in place. Hope this helps.

Regards
Barry

Vet says to see how the elevated feeding goes...will do a radigraph as a next step. Thanks for your input.

Re: Chica has Myasthenia Gravis

Ok so the vet suggested to go back to raw feeding (I stopped because of having a new baby, it just seemed like too much work) so after two days of raw food, small amounts 4x a day she hasn't vomited at all (I'm touching wood). That's a huge improvement...she's only coughed a couple of times after running around like a goof. She seems in better spirits as well.

Wish us luck.

Re: Chica has Myasthenia Gravis

Raw food is the best way to go.Raw food stays down much better than kibble.O found purrying it to a slush in a food processor helped.
