Re: To exicited to pee or dump! Here are a few suggestions: 1. How much time do you spend outside with her? Whatever it may be - extend it and wait till she goes and then PRAISE, PRAISE, PRAISE! 2. Do you take her out 5 minutes after every meal? Depending on how old she is - take her out often. So, take your little girl out on the leash, walk around with her, wait till she goes and then PRAISE, PRAISE, PRAISE! (As an example: We got Rhea at 9 weeks and started right away: we took her out every hour for 2 days - 2-3 hours at night, then every 2 hours the next 2 days, then every 3 hours for the next week, then every 4 hours for the next 2 weeks. She's 15 weeks now, sleeps through the night - about 7 hours total, crated during the day for 5 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the afternoon. She never soils her crate and hasn't had an accident in the house in 2 weeks!) 3. Make sure to wipe the crate EVERY TIME she soils it with Nature's Miracle or any other enzyme cleaner to get rid of the odor (if you can't smell it it doesn't mean she can't). 4. Take some water with you when you go outside, play with her and then get her to drink the water - puppy's system is pretty simple: they eat - they poop; they drink - they pee; pretty much within 5 minutes. Wait till she goes and then PRAISE, PRAISE, PRAISE! 5. Running around usually "shakes thing up" and makes them go. Play with her instead of having her play by herself, walk around with her, wait till she goes and then PRAISE, PRAISE, PRAISE! (notice the pattern here? )I didn't do it with mine, but some people on this board did use treats as well to praise for going outside. But most of all - be patient and consistent. Every pup is different - for some it happens in a week, with others it takes longer.

Re: To exicited to pee or dump! She's got it all backwards...POTTY first, then PARTY Put the pup on a leash and follow her around the yard, walk with her, until she does her business, THEN take the leash off and play with her. Potty first, then play - work before party Remember to PRAISE when she goes where you want her to!

Re: To exicited to pee or dump! Sounds as tho you're not staying outside with her long enough for her to get over her excitement at being outside. You're bringing her back into the house before she remembers why she's outside. I think it'd also help if you took her straightaway to her latrine spot, kept her leash short to prevent her from wandering around, and gave her a "Hurry up" command. Don't forget to tell her what a clever girl she is when she uses her elimination spot.

Re: To exicited to pee or dump! Definitely potty first and play afterwards. Otherwise she will think she is outside to play. You certainly do not need a muzzle. You need to read up here and learn how to potty train your dog.

I agree, walking around with her will get things moving. Then when she starts to get the idea, you can start training her to go in a certain spot and that will reinforce that outside is the only correct place to do her business.
