Talking Prolapsed Vagina?

There's a female Rottweiler at the shelter and the staff has said she has a prolapsed vagina (?). They said the only way to repaid this is to spay her and then tack her vagina up. I'm only going by memory here from what they said, so this is the jest of it.

Any experience in this? Any idea how much extra that would be after the spay?

She's a sweet girl and seems full of energy and butt wiggles, but I'm not sure if I should pursue this. I know I'd have to solicit $$ to help, so I'm not sure how much the local rescues would help me.

I "help" with independent rescue (sort of happened by accident), but I have to have another established rescue do the actual pulling.

Anyway, anyone know any thing about this? She seems to be a sweetheart.

thanks,
Kathy

Re: Prolapsed Vagina?

Once the dog has been spayed, the prolapse usually shrinks down and resolves itself within 2 to 4 weeks. I guess if there was a lot of trauma to the exposed tissue, you might need further surgery, but I have never seen one that didn't go away on its own.

Re: Prolapsed Vagina?

when spayed and the hormones go down, it usually resolves itself and since she won't come in heat again because she is spayed, it shouldn't happen again.
if she is otherwise healthy, good tempered, go for it.
