Re: on and off diahhrea

Did they check for giarrdia and coccidia specifically? Those are NOT checked for in a routine fecal exam.

Re: on and off diahhrea

They are both parasites that require special testing to find, and specific treatment. You can Google online to find more info. You need to request these tests specifically. Neither one is uncommon in puppies and your dog's weight sounds a little low.

Re: on and off diahhrea

If she still has diarrhea, do NOT be giving her vaccines. Why would you make her immune system fight something new (vaccine) when its already obviously working on something.

Read up on coccidia too, and ask them to test for it. I've seen puppies with tons of energy, activity and no vomitting be positive for Giarrdia. I would ask for both tests, were it my puppy (or one that I had bred).

Re: on and off diahhrea

Well I took her in and she tested positive for coccidia They put her on meds were real nice (i just had to spend $400 on dental) so they didnt charge me an exam fee just $20 :) she is 11.5 pounds so she gained 4 pounds in 2 less then 2 weeks vet said she looked great except for the parasite. Oh I know that vaccines are a no-no when they are iLL She just had an appoitment doesnt mean she would get one some vets probally wouldnt care but mine is real good a little more $$ then others in the area but she is worth it

Thanks for mentioning those 2 parasites glad she will be getting better soon

Re: on and off diahhrea

Glad you got it figured out! The meds should work pretty quickly, just be sure she's getting PLENTY of fluids. You may even want to consider giving her some chix/beef broth or pedialyte to help her tank back up.

Re: on and off diahhrea

You should have seen her when I gave her chicken and rice, She went nuts for that stuff, she is funny she knows when its feeding time she runs up to me and sits and waits for her bowl to hit the floor. I cant believe how smart she is now she is fetching toys and bringing them back ( I hope she continues doing that)

Re: on and off diahhrea

If you have not already contacted your breeder about this, you need to do so. There are high chances the rest of the litter is infected and she needs to notify the puppy owners.
