Mac smells like a dog!

O.K. I have read all the posts pertaining to doggy smells and I still am not quite sure what causes Mac to smell. He is a six year old short-haired German Rottie and is well groomed. My girlfriend's dog Abby is a lab and she doesn't ever smell. They eat the same food: Pedigree weight maintenance formula and they get occasional treats. They were just a the Vets a few weeks ago and are in perfect health. Does the kind of food they eat really make a difference and why?
Thanks!

Yes the food makes the world of difference. Pedigree way down the bottom of my list for a good dog food. I would not feed it to my dog. Do a search on this forum to find out about the super premium foods.

This food may well agree with the Lab but is sounds like it's not the food for your Rottweiler.

Rotts are a shor haired breed. You say you have a German Rottweiler. Did you import him from Germany?

Re: Mac smells like a dog!

I've fed my dogs premium food (several varities) from the beginning and one fact has remained steady - my male does not have a doggy odor and both of my females have. All are spayed/neutered. I'm not sure if breeding also has anything to do with it, whether they were well bred or not.

Re: Mac smells like a dog!

Pedigree--ouch. It's an awful food. There are so many other foods so very much better and readily available; please read thru Nutrition and Grooming to learn what they are--and why there's so much better.

Why does one dog smell while the other doesn't when both are eating the same poor quality food?

Everyone is unique and different. I am sure there are people who eat alot of fast food, don't exercise, who drink and smoke, and generally do all the things our mothers and doctors tell us not to do and they're pefectly healthy.

However, the health of the vast majority of us is sure to be better if we take care of ourselves.

One dog sounds to me as tho his system doesn't tolerate the bad food as well as the Lab's.
