| Tumor I have come to this site in the hopes that somebody can give us some info on tumors in the bladder. Our beloved Malama started showing signs of a larger stomach and it seemed particularly hard. We had been giving him Greenies and thought maybe they were not disolving right in his stomach so we immediately stopped giving them. This all started a little over a month ago but he was not showing any signs so we decided to just watch him. His appetite is very good and he seemed to have a lot of energy and so we just watched him. Then about a month ago we started to see his bowel habits change. He would try to go to the bathroom and would strain and finally after about 3 tries he would go. We started to get worried and took him to our local vet. Upon examination his face got very grave and said it was a fast growing tumor which he suspected was in his bladder. He took an xray and we all saw a hugh mass but could not see where his bladder was.The vet thought the mass was his bladder. He suggested to catheterize him thru his penis and inject dye to get a better look. We were suppose to do this today but have decided we do not want to put him thru this. I have done much research on this and everything i have read suggests bladder cancer which often is unoperable We have located a pet site that sells herbs that they swear can shrink tumors really fast. We have ordered the herbs and they will be here tomorrow (Friday). He still is eating very well, playing with his balls and taking long walks but we can tell he is uncomfortable with this hugh tumor in his body. For us, heartbroken as we are, the quality of his life is more important than the length. We will not do anything to make him suffer more no matter how much it hurts to lose him. All the research I have done tells me this is highly unusual for a male rottweiler and I want to know if anyone else out there has had this happen. Naturally we are trying to blame something, was it the flea medicine, the glo balls? We have always fed him with the greatest of care. This being means more to us than I can say. Is there anybody out there with words of wisdom for us? Malama was 9 years old April 1st. Thank you for reading this. Aloha baba |

| Re: Tumor I hope he gets some relief. I know how hard this must be for you. Do remember one thing... Rotties are VERY stoic and will hide their pain from you for an incredibly long time. Mine did, until the weekend before a Monday exploratory surgery was done. The Vet called me from the operating room and told me about the numerous tumors that were present, and that he "never would have known how sick she was on the inside from how she looked on the outside". I let her go to the Bridge then and there. I will be sending positive thoughts to you and Malama and remembering you in my prayers.

| Re: Tumor What are we giving our babies that are making them get Cancer? This is not right, these beloved incredible beings do not deserve this! I do not want my baby to be in pain, he is so loving and devoted to us. We have a love fest every morning on his bed when we wake up. Today the herbs arrive. The tumor is so large his stomach is very extended so we will know if they are working without xrays ect. We really appreciate everyones prayers, truly we need them. I do not want him to suffer! |

| Re: Tumor We don't know why it happens. There is a project that is analyzing DNA from blood from healthy older dogs (including Rotties) and those with cancer to see if there is a genetic connection. There is information about it on other threads here.

| Re: Tumor I believe Piroxicam has been shown to shrunk bladder tumors. You may ask your vet about this. Its normally a pain reliever but was found to help with some cancers.

| Re: Tumor Dear baba, I am so sorry to hear about your rottie. When you express your saddness and concern, most of us can truly relate to what you are feeling. There is a vet on Long Island in New York, who specializes in Chinese herbal medicine. His name is Dr Wen. People come to his hospital with their animals, from all over the world. His alternative medicine has taken dogs from the brink of death and reversed their conditions. You can find his web site by typing Dr Wen chinese herbal medicine. He is all holistic. Maybe your vet can get a conference call with him. I wish I would have known about him when my last girl got sick. I hope the herbs start working. Be patient, it may take a few days. , |
