one year old has diarrhea and throwing up?

This first happened shortly after easter..and we thought it was because we gave him..treats that his stomach isnt use to..and because he ate a lot (usually he only eats dog food).
So we gave him cooked rice and it went away..

Now its happening again only he hasnt eaten anything bad..
Could he have a stomach bacteria?
What could be causing this?

Some rotts are prone to IBD. Others just don't do well on certain types of dog foods. What food are you feeding him?

I would take him to the vet and have them make sure there isn't anything major going on. It could be anything from an upset tummy to a blockage to IBD or worse.

Do you really think it could be worse?! what is IBD?
He has only gone through this twice.. I think the reason hes throwing up is because he ate a lot of grass..because when he threw up he threw up grass..so maybe it irritated his stomach?

Also he doesnt seem in pain..because hes running around playfully..and hes very energetic still..?!

Oh we mainly feed him dog food that our breeder recommended..hes been on it since he was a puppy..He doesnt consume anything apart from that..sometimes raw meats..which he has been consuming previously and it didnt produce a reaction..also..carrots (again, had it previously with no reaction) sometimes canned fish..but thats about it.

I was just doing some research..my dog is on a science dog food diet..but when i look it up.. the one that i find doesnt look like the one i feed my dog.. I live in Australia.. now im finding all this info about science dog food...thats not so good..but my breeder recommended this food..and so did our vet.. and its one of the most expensive dog foods that ive come across..its like 100-150 per pack.. so i figured it would be good.I dont know.. i dont think its the same dog food that ive come across online..because the packs are not the same....is there any other science dog food around?

the first thing i suspect is worms. has he had a fecal exam recently?

Sorry guys he is on ADVANCE not science..he was on science but he had a reaction to it.

He gets that regular worm tablet..so is it still possible to get worms ??

He stopped throwing up..it was just last night that he threw up....but he still has diarrhea.

take him to the vet NOW. fecal testing should be the first order of business when bringing a new dog home. and if you live in an area with lots of dogs, it should be considered when vomiting and loose stools start.

i've no confidence in over the counter worm tablets. your vet can dispense meds which work effectively. if you're not doing so already, please consider heartworm testing followed by a preventive like heartguard or interceptor. these offer protectiomn against whipworms, hookworms and roundworms in addition to heartworms.

it's a simple measure which pays off greatly over the dog's life.

Take him to a doctor now. Whatever is wrong is beyond simple upset tummy if it is still going on. Many dogs will eat grass to either calm their tummy or force themselves to vomit. ALOT of rotts think they are cows and just eat grass for the heck of it.

IBD = Irritable Bowel Disorder.

Also, Advance is not what I would call a good food. That's Petsmart's home grown line? Not hideous but not good either.

We took him to the vet last night.. we also took a poop sample...and the vet said that considering the situation , that an exam isnt needed right now. He gave us this powder to put in his food and told us to only feed him rice for the next 2-3 days with the powder mix..we fed him once and his poo is already starting to have form.. (its not water any more). I read at the back of the powder pack and it said that its suppose to balance good and bad bacteria..and restore balance.
He is already much better.

We took him to the vet on the 3rd day of his diarrhea...so it didnt go on for long...also the doc said that some rotts have more sensitive stomach's then others..:S

He gets heartwormed and gets those worm protection tablets/ spray..im not very familiar with it as my mum does it all..but on our calendar we have market when he needs the heartworm tablet etc..we got all of this from our vet (the vet recommended it all).. hes been taking this his whole life.
