| Worried sick! RE: recurring diarhea (Giardia) My 9 month old had a bad bout of diarhea. Took her to the vet ran blood and fecal. All neg. Still came home with Metro, some Sulfa drug, and Panacur. She was better the very next day. No problems at all for 4 days. Then all of the sudden this morning EXPLOSIVE watery diarhea and tons of it. About 4 dinner plate sized piles of liquid in the backyard. WHAT in the world would cause her to have THIS while on the antibiotics???? |

| Re: Worried sick! RE: recurring diarhea (Giardia) Have you changed her food or anything in her diet? Has she had a chance to get to anything that she should not have eaten? Are you keeping her on bland foods? Have they checked her for IBD?

| Re: Worried sick! RE: recurring diarhea (Giardia) One of the newer treatments for Giardia is panacur. Given once a day for 5 days (weight based dose). Some of the current strains are resistant to the standard treatment of flagyl. This may be something you want to ask your vet about. You could also ask to have her checked for coccidia (not normally run in a standard fecal exam).

| Re: Worried sick! RE: recurring diarhea (Giardia) Lola has had diarrhea on and off since the day we got her. She had an allergic reaction from the Giardia medication. The only time she has not had diarrhea was when she went into heat and for a month after. The vet said she has a bacterial overgrowth that is hormone related. When she gets spayed, he feel that the diarrhea will stop. Has your girl been spayed? Also, he had her on tylosin 200 mil.once a day. Tylosin is used to control bacterial overgrowth in large animals but, dogs seem to tolerate it well. She lives on chicken and rice and when I stop cooking for her, she goes back to bad stomach. I hope some part of this reply helps. I hope your girl is better soon. Jane |
