Talking arthritis medication for rotts/OTC tried?

Our Rott Charlamagne has arthritis very badly. she is 10. We tried a two week trial with deramaxx 100mg. It worked wonders. The problem is the price. It is simply out of our budget. I've even looked online and the cheapest I found is out of our ball park. Does anyone know of a 'human drug equivalent' that would work, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, etc. And what the dosage might be? She weighs 125 lbs.

Thanks for all of your help.

Roxanne and Charlamagne.

You need to speak with your vet about any medication you give to your dog.

It is not for us here to prescribe medication for a dog we don't know and can't see. What would happen if someone suggested a medicine that had an adverse affect on your dog?

Explain the situation to your vet.

Re: arthritis medication for rotts/OTC tried?

These are all supplements that can help repair, not mask the pain. Please don't go buy the cheapest that you can find, or even from your pharmacy. Go to a good nutrition /supplement store, and buy a QUALITY product in your price range. I don't know if this can replace your meds, but it can help that maybe later you can eliminate the meds.

Glucosamine sulfate to repair tissue, w/chondroiten - lubricates the joint. MSM too is suppose to be good. You can also add bufferred vitamin C (ester-C) as it has cellular regenative properties. I've "heard" that bee pollen is suppose to be wonders for tissue repair, but it can be an allergin, so careful with that one.

I know some people that use a liquid glucosamine for horses, can't remember the name, they say its cheap and lasts a long time. Try a local feed store and ask what they got. When you have 3 or 4 dogs, yeah, the cost can add up.

They are supplements Groupieindenial. The OP was asking about pain relief medications.

My dogs are all on Gluc/chon. I don't think glucosamine repairs tissue. It aids in increasing the synovial fluid if my information is correct.

Glucosamine is involved in the formation of cartilage, ligaments, tendons, bones, eyes, nails and heart valves. The main function of glucosamine is to stimulate production of cartilage components and the repair of arthritic joints.
