Depends on a lot, genetics, the size of the sire and dam, the amount of bone and natural muscle they have. You cannot generalize in terms of weight for any dog.

With our puppies (which are bred to the ARC Standard), the males normally gain 10 - 11 lbs a month for the first 8-10 months and then the increase is gradual until they are finished growing at 2 - 21/2 years of age. At 18 months your dog is not finished yet, he will still gain weight in terms of muscle development as he matures.

Re: Weight

moose is a big dog so i had his thyroid checked. it came back normal. he is about 18 months and 130 lbs. i exercise him regularly and do not overfeed him at all. i am trying to have him lose weight but its not easy. he wont go near the treadmill, or near my garage now. i take him for walks and let him run off lead often for about an hour or so. sometimes 3 times a day if i can. i think some of the problem was the kibble he ate. so i switched him to the barf diet which he loves. i think thats helped some.he has kept this weight for a few months. he lost about 5 lbs so far.

Re: Weight

DC weigh 127 pounds at 18 months, and I think that's too big for him, so we are trying to get him to lose some weight.

WOW, that certainly sounds way too big for him. As a friend of mine once said, "the only one responsible for a dog's weight, be it overweight or underweight, is his owner."

Cut his food in half, start getting him more exercise and get him down to where you can see a waistline and feel his ribs with a light touch to the sides. In the long run, it will help him defray any hip problems from being overweight and add years to his life.
