Puppy cold

I took my six month old to the vet today because he's been coughing somehting awful and my friends dog who my pup is always around was doing the same thing a few days ago and her vet said it was upper respiratory infection and she was given antibiotics, but the vet i took my dog to said it was basically just a cold and she didn't want to give him meds right away. So she sent me away w/ just a cough medicine and said it would go away on it's own. She did say if it didn't improve within a few days she would fill out a antibiotic prescription for me. Anyone else had an experience like this where the coughing just went away? I'm only concerned because this is not my usual vet. My regular vet is the same one my friend goes to where it was determined to be a upper respiratory and he was given a weeks worth of antibiotics.

This sounds like kennel cough. Your vet is right, there is no need for antibiotics, unless some secondary infection settles in.
Cough syrup, rest, good food and the pup will soon be on the mend. It would be like us catching a cold...most of us get over it without too much fuss .

Hope your pup feels better soon.

p.s. It is very contagious..so do not take your pup out with other dogs till the coughing stops.

I would watch this closely if it is kennel cough in some rare cases it can run into pheumonia. Also never vaccinate for kennel during or for sometime after the dog has been diagnosed.
