Cherry eye & another neutering question

I just had Harley to the vet today and he was diagnosed with Cherry eye. Yesterday he was out in the yard for a brief time and came back in with this huge 'bubble' on the inside corner of his eye! I was horrified, I thought he must have poked his eye with something. He took a nap and when he woke up, it was gone. About a half hour later, it popped back out. My question is......the vet said he hasn't seen one quite this large before and said there is a chance that after the surgery Wednesday to tack it back down, there is the risk over time the suture could rip and we'd be back to square one. Has anyone ever experienced this? Also......Harley is just 5 months old (on Thurs. to be exact) and the vet is suggesting we have him neutered at the same time as the eye surgery. We decided before we even got Harley that he would be neutered, but always questioned when is the right time. I know there is alot of controversy here regarding this. The vet seems to think it would be much easier on Harley to only have him in surgery once rather than twice but 5 months seems so young. Any thoughts on this? I'd appreciate it!

Re: Cherry eye & another neutering question

Hi,

My dog was attacked by another dog on January 4th. The dog bit Shiba's face and tore her eye muscles. Shiba's eye rolled back and looked like it was torn. It was the most horrific thing I ever saw. My Shiba was only 4 1/2 months. The resulting injury left her with a cherry eye. The doctor suggested that we spay her at the same time as tacking the gland back in so we did. I was told by the vet that immature spays are done all the time with no resulting damage to the dog. Shiba is doing fine right now. She is on her way to healing but we know her eye will probably never be the same. To make things worse, the owner of the dog that bit Shiba took off and we have not been able to find her since!
