| Re: Itching problem.... Yeah..but wait till you get him on a better food...you will soon realize that you were not feeding the best. Many people here on the forums think their dogs are doing great on a certain food...and when they change to a better quality...they are so surprised by the great changes they see. If all you have fed Maverick his whole life is Performatrin...then you really don't know do you?? I went to Pet Value and took a look at the ingredients of the Large Breed Adult Preformatrin.. ...yuck..no wonder poor Maverick is itching and licking and now has tummy troubles. It's got poultry by-products, full of corn and every other grain they can throw in. Definetly get him off of the food....the ULTRA-Preformatin is way better. Gina

| Re: Itching problem.... If you suspect the itching is caused by the food you are feeding , you may want to consider doing a "food elimination trial ". This consists of carefully tracking all of the ingredients in their food and slowly eliminating them one by one , all the while tracking any progress on you pets itching . Usually you begin with the meat sources , if the majority of meat is chicken - switch to lamb , give it a week or two and see what happens . If no improvement , switch to duck or veal . Most of what I have read indicates that the meat is the culprit moreso than the grain content of the food , when it comes to allergic reactions . There have been cases where the dog was found to react to the grain as well . It is a long , drawn out process , but for the comfort of your pet , nothing is to much to ask or do . |
