Wink Hooch is getting neutered today!

Just dropped Hooch off to be neutered today. I've never had a male dog go through this so i'm nervous. The vet said he weighed 83 lbs. He was 8 mos old on January 1st. I can't believe he weighs that much!!! Seems like yesterday he was the 8 week old pup. I felt so guilty leaving him this morning. It's like when you drop your kids off at school for the first day alone. Well, I am rambling. I just needed to share my thoughts with people that understand how I feel about my Hooch.

Re: Hooch is getting neutered today!

He will be fine - a bit groggy - but fine.

Just be sure to restrict his activity for a little while and follow the Vet's aftercare instructions.

Good thoughts for Hooch.

I know its hard to leave them. I usually feel guilty too. Does he come home the same day?

Yes, he'll get to come home home around 4pm or so this afternoon. I couldn't sleep last night.

LOL I bet he doesn't miss "them" too much either

Re: Hooch is getting neutered today!

It's 2:45 here and I just got off the phone with the vets office. All is good and he is ready to come home now. I'm glad it's over. I was nervous all day. I'm going to baby him all evening.

Re: Hooch is getting neutered today!

That is great news. He would probably really enjoy a marrow bone, when he can eat

Re: Hooch is getting neutered today!

i hope he is kind of calm anyway. He bounces around all day long !!! He'll be starting his obedience training on the 21st of January. I CAN'T WAIT. He definately needs some manners. I'm trying to break him from jumping up on people especially me. I'm 5 foot and he can rest his paws on my shoulders LOL

Re: Hooch is getting neutered today!

He was bouncing around when I picked him up. He slept alot that night but was back to his normal self on Saturday. He goes back to get his stitches out next week. Thanks for asking about him!!! I hope he calms a little. He is not overly excited but just big. I can't wait until training. He starts on January 21st and i'm so excited. Hopefully some manners will be learned quickly.

Re: Hooch is getting neutered today!

does not calm down the dog, energy wise, what it does is calms the hormones. He will not be anxious looking for a mate. Believe me Harley is 15 months now, and bundles of energy

Re: Hooch is getting neutered today!

UPDATE:

Hooch went yesterday to get his stitches out. My vets office LOVES him. He is the sweetest most affectionate dog. There were 2 ladies out front with 2 little yippee dogs barking up a storm and they made the comment to me as I was walking by, "hold him tight" I about died. Their dogs were raising hell and my nice boy wasn't paying any attention to either of them. I laughed at them and said it:" looks like he isn't the one that needs restrained." Anyway, got he stitches out. No problem on his back with only belly scratches and gave everyone big licks. I'm so happy that he is so pleasant. I'm proud of my big boy!!!

Re: Hooch is getting neutered today!

I love it when the vets office raves over the rott!!!!
When Duke was neutered a female shepard cross was being spayed the same day....she was about 1/2 his size
when I went to pick up Duke, he had been taken out of the "recovery" area and was sitting being patted and admired by everyone in the reception area...while the shepard cross was barking her head off!!!!

Turned out that she had tried to bite the vet; yapped from the second she woke up, etc., etc. So Dukey got to be the mascot for the day...he was in 7th heaven!!!! (and vet trips have never been a problem with this dog...wonder why????LOL)

Re: Hooch is getting neutered today!

Lisa,
I'm glad to hear Hooch has recovered nicely. Give him a few belly rubs from me and Elsa. Good boy at the vet's office too

Don't you just love the eager, Napoleon like attitudes?!!! And they are just so cute, and don’t need training because you can pick them up. Gosh!
