| Hi guys. I came home from work yesterday to find that the rott'n one was walking funny. She seemed to have a limp, but sometimes not? It seemed to be emanating from her left paw. I checked it all over and could see nothing, although when i squeezed her pinky she did let out a little wimper.I figured she had strained or hurt a toe and left it untill the morning. When i got up the next day she was definitely limping around 50% of the time. So off to the Vet where she told us that the paw seemed fine but there was some clicking in the elbow . The Vet said it could be caused from her growing dissproportionately (she is 6.5 months), or maybe a strained muscle. She perscribed an anti inflamitory and said no excercise for a week. As dozey is very active and healthy, i find this diagnosis a little bit flimsy. I am also very worried that this could be something serious. The Vet was adamant that x-rays were not necessary at this point, but i am unsure. I know this could be a ton of different things, and it is so hard to describe in writting what her symtoms are, but i need reassurance. Should she be taken for x ray? The limp isn't sever, she can walk and run fairly normally, but i can see it and it is bugging me a lot. Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated as this is the first unhappy incident to happen to her. |

| Re: ok now i'm worried Rest and anti-inflammatories are the usual prescription for a limp.(in my experience) If there is no improvement after the time prescribed, or if it gets worse...your Vet will probably order some Xrays! I wouldn't worry too much at this point...don't stress yourself out!! But REST means REST...even if she shows improvement, it's always better to take it easy or wait that extra day before you re-introduce activity. Keep us posted!! |

| Re: ok now i'm worried just throwin this out to you, could be Pano. Santo had it and was diagnosed around the same age.It is caused by rapid growth of the long bones. and this is the age where it usually begins. It's equivalent to "growing pains" in a child. It can sometimes cause a pup to wake up one day and not be able to walk, or it can be very subtle one day, and gone in a few days. This can last up to 2 years. Also, it can jump fom leg to leg. Luckily Santo had a very mild case, he only was on meds(metacam) twice in his first 2 years. Keep in my mind it may not be Pano, but I agree that you received a flimsy diagnosis and I am just giving my opinion as something to look out for. If you still feel unsure after a bit of time, try a different vet. Good luck.
