Dandruff

Jazmin (6 months old), has lots of dandruff. It started about two weeks ago. I know that dandruff is a symptom of food allergies and she does have food allergies, but I haven't fed her anything other than what she normally eats including the IVD diet she is on. Could this be a result of the oncoming cold weather? She's shedding a lot too.

Re: Dandruff

BTW, forgot to add, she was spayed two weeks ago and had a minor surgery on her foot to remove the dewclaw, I'm not sure how but could that cause the dandruff?

Re: Dandruff

Do you bath her often? If so, you may have dried her skin out.

Re: Dandruff

Do you give her any supplemental oils, like fish or safflower oil? I know Meeka gets really dry skin this time of year, but she gets regular fish oil capsules and that really helps. It also keeps the shedding down a lot! I don't know how that would affect her food allergies though????

Re: Dandruff

Even easier than the capsules....I just give Oscar a can of sardines or a can of salmon mixed with his regular food at least once a week. He also gets 1 egg a week.

His coat is super shiney.

Re: Dandruff

Poeple sardines/salmon? One whole egg?

See, her coat was so super shiny, I would get compliments all the time on how nice she looks and all of the sudden it's all dandruffy. Thanks for the advice.

Re: Dandruff

I'd really appriciate any feedback on this-cause I read what is on this sight and then tried it till I found what was working for her. I give her 2 1000mg capsules. It is natural fish oil concentrate 2000mg containing EPA 300mg and DHA 200mg. I give her 2 capsules with her dinner. She also gets an egg 1-2x a week. This seems to work for her, but she doesn't have any allergies or anything. I do know the fish oil seems to sit better with her than the safflower oil. Hope this helps, but search around and there is a ton of info about this on the sight.

Yes 'human' sardines and salmon. haha I buy the canned sardines in WATER and canned salmon as well. And I give him the whole egg with the yolk raw and than quickly cook the whites (heard when they're puppies the white needs to be cooked until they can properly digest it as adults).

Maybe her bodies just reacting to her surgery and the weather changes. I'd just give her some fish oils or fish etc to help clear it up and give her skin a helping hand. If you don't think it's her food it has to be environment (crappy weather) or health (i.e. a minor surgery etc).
