Arthritis

My 8 year old Bruno has arthritis in his right front elbow. he has had surgery on both side's to remove growths to check for cancer about two yrs ago. We are treating him with 1000 mg of MSN, 1500 mg of Glucosamine and 1200 mg of Chondroitin daily. The problem we are having is that he will not leave it alone. keeps licking it. I have tried salve and a med made up by the vet part heat and part bitter apple. to no avail. We keep a sock on with horse wrap but soon after it is removed he starts all over not only licking but biting it. Any sugestion's

Re: Arthritis

I wonder if it aches, and that's why he's chewing on it? My dog had elbow dysplasia, and in addition to using Schiff Move Free (glucosamine/chondroitin) orally, she received Adequan injections that REALLY helped with the arthritis in her elbows. I'd talk to the vet about a series of Adequan injections, and keep the elbow protected as best you can from being chewed on. Maybe keep wrapped when you can't supervise, and take it off for air when you can. You could additionally try massaging his elbow with something along the lines of Olbas Oil to warm and soothe the elbow.

Re: Arthritis

I'm also a firm believer in Adequan for arthritis. It has done wonders for several of our older dogs.

It may seem expensive, but if you get the medication from your vet, it will save you on all the office calls for the shots. You can also find it online and your vet can give you a px to purchase it that way or maybe he will just match the cheapest price you can find himself.
