Re: does heartgrad kill tapes?

Heartgard Plus kills HWs, hookworms, and roundworms. Interceptor also adds in whipworms. Neither take care of tapes, as far as I know.

Tapeworms indicate a flea problem; fleas eat tapeworm eggs, jump on the dog, and then the dog eats the fleas when he licks himself. So you need to treat the fleas on the dog and in your home and get Chase wormed at the vet. Have fun!

Tapes can also be aquired if the dog eats deer or rabbit poop. I found that out this winter when Baxter would have a feast eating what the wild animals left under our apple trees.

He is also on Heartgard +, but it does not work for tapes. He was wormed and did not have the problem again. We will have to see this winter if he has outgrown this rotten habit.

Re: does heartguard kill tapeworms?

here is the problem no matter what I do they come back, It is impossible to get rid of all the fleas because they are outside to, plus I live on 14 acres and feed some ferals who live on the property so I can't rid them of fleas also. I have chase on program but I guess its not doing the trick. Someone told me that advantage is really toxic, it rubs off the pet and before you know it everything is covered. Really scary, and I know I wouldn't give posion to a child so why do people give it to dogs?

Re: does heartguard kill tapeworms?

Emil,
My girl got those recently. She does not have, or ever had, fleas, but she does eat poop on the trails and fields. I haven't trained that habit out of her. To get rid of it...a trip to the vet and a 1 1/2 pil prescription that costed $25.00! I guess it pays to train them not to eat poop.
