| Roxy had her annual check up last night, everything looked great except her waist line! She has always been between 67 - 70 lbs (she's 4 now) and she was 75.4 yesterday! As soon as our vet walked in she made a comment. So, it looks like I am not the only person in need of more excericise! The vet does think it could be the food also. We switched her from Canidae to Natural Balance a few months ago and kept her at 1.5 cups twice a day. She is now down to 1 cup twice a day! They really don't get any treats either. Guess it's time to increase the walks/runs and decrease the food.Besides this she was very pleased with how Roxy looks. |

| Yep, the weight can creep up on you! I thought I was starving my Daisy by feeding 3 cups of Canidae total per day. Lo and behold, she went from 88 to 90 pounds (she is very tall and long). So she is now getting a little more than 2 cups per day. She is five years old and not very active other than a couple miles of slow leash walks daily. I guess the combination of age and sedentary life style has caught up with her. I really feel "mean" feeding her such a small amount of food. But, what's the line, if your dog is overweight, YOU are not getting enough exercise!

| Have you ever looked into B.A.R.F. diets. The raw foods is not for everyone and it's not always convenient, but the benifits are unbelievable. I have modified this diet to suit my life style, but I incorporate a slurry of raw fruits and veggies with the recommended supplements added to their kibble durring the week and go raw on the weekends. Whether you go strickly raw or modify the diet slightly, the benifits to the dogs overall condition have to be seen to believe. Coat, muscle tone, teeth, breath, and body condition(weight) are far superior in dogs fed a BARF diet. Even the bone structure on dogs fed a BARF diet seems to be better. Almost all of my friends(show and breeding) who feed BARF have most of their dogs OFA good or excellent, with most of them being excellent. It's worth looking into, anyway. |
