| Fluid on elbows ---- 4 month old Rott I have a 4 month old Rottweiler whose elbows have big sacs of fluid on them. I have taken him to two different vets and the second vet drained the fluid with a syringe, wrapped them and sent me home with a week's worth of antibiotics. I took the bandages off when I noticed his feet had swollen up to 3 or four times their regular size. I talked to the second vet again yesterday and he told me he had done some more research and had found that this condition is not really unusual in large breed puppies and that benign neglect might be the best medicine.... Any suggestions? |

| It is more common among the giant breeds, and usually does not show at such a young age. (hydormas or hygromas) Try to see that he lies on softer surfaces so there is not so much pressure on the joint. Sometimes aspriation works, sometimes it does not and the area fill right back up again. Obviously the vet that drained it, really wrapped too tightly. Not a very safe practice if he did not caution you to release the bandage several times a day and to watch for any swelling. The Saint people are the ones I see most often with hydromas on their dogs.

| I have never heard of it in such a young pup. It is most often caused by large dogs laying on hard surfaces..such as cement. How much would your pup weigh at 4 months? 40-45 lbs???? I would be thinking something else may be going on here...and persue this. Gina
