| Update On Caesar The 12 Year Old Rottwiler IT'S 2:30 AM 9/6..... WE JUST GOT BACK FROM THE ER WITHOUT CAESAR. HE TOOK A QUICK TURN FOR THE WORSE. HE BROKE HIS FEMOUR. APPARENTLY IT WAS WEAKENED BY THE BONE CANCER. I WISH I HAD THE GUTS TO LISTEN TO THE PERSON WHO SAID NOT TO WAIT UNTIL HE CAN'T WALK TO MAKE THE DECSION. MY FAMILY AND I WERE IN DISAGREEMENT TONIGHT ABOUT THAT DECSION. SO WE LEFT HIM AT THE HOSPITAL UNDER SEDATION AND WILL MEET WITH THE DOCTOR SOME TIME TODAY TO DISCUSS OUR OPTIONS. MY WIFE IS HOLDING ON TO SOME HOPE THAT IT'S NOT CANCER(BECAUSE IT HAS NOT BEEN CONFIRMED). ALTHOUGH IT STRONGLY POINTS IN THAT DIRECTION. IT'S HARD FOR ME TO LEAVE HIM THERE WITHOUT HIS FAMILY BUT MY FAMILY NEEDS MORE TIME TO ACCPET WHAT I FEEL IS INEVITABLE. IS IT GOOD FOR THE DOG TO HAVE HIS FAMILY THERE FOR HIM WHEN THAT TIME COMES? |

| Yes, by all means. Be with him as you send him to the Bridge. He has served you well, it is your turn to do for him - to give him the ultimate gift. While it is probably one of the most difficult things a person has to do, it can also be one of the most comforting - knowing you were there for him and gave him his release to a better place. Caesar will thank you when you see him again. My thoughts and prayers are with you. |

| While I know these things can be hard to accept, I do not think there can be any doubt about the diagnosis at this point. It is one of the hardest things you will ever do, but definitely be there..... I still feel guilty that I wasn't there with my Annie before she was PTS during surgery. His life is entirely in your hands, and he is trusting you to always do the kindest thing. He will feel safe and loved knowing you are there with him, and, as Patty said, he will thank you for it when you see him again. |

| Your dog has been a loyal friend. He needs the same in return at this time which means being his advocate, not allowing his suffering to continue, and yes, being with him.

| Please do it, and do it quickly. He is suffering now, and he will not get better. Every minute you make him wait, you do it for your benefit and to his detriment. Sort it out with the family later, but please relieve his suffering immediately. I'm so sorry for your loss.

| So sorry to hear about Caesar. PLEASE,PLEASE....do not let him suffer. Forget about what you family wants, says, etc. You must do right by this dog and end his pain. Do not wait for results, tests, etc. He has suffered long enough. Hold him and love him till the end. Gina

| My Son And I Were At The Doctors Visting Him This Morning. He Was Very Happy To See Us. He Wanted To Get Up And Go With Us. I Told Him I'd Be Back. You See He Is Totalty Alert! He's With It That's What Is Making This Harder. We Want To Give Him Every Oppourtunity To Live. The Cancer Has Not Spread. They Could Amputate The Leg But At 12? We Were Also Thinking About Bringing Him Home And Having It( Pts )done Here. We Think He'd Be Happy To Be Home And Relaxed...you Should See His Face When He's With Us... He's In Pain But Very Happy. How Can We Sentence Him To Death Without Exhausting Every Avenue? |

| Osteosarcoma is terminal, and he is just going to get worse. He cannot be saved, you have to accept this. All you can do is put him through more suffering for selfish reasons. I am horrified by what you are proposing, please don't do that to your friend of 12 years. Please be a friend to him now when he needs you most and let him go in peace.

| Once a bone breaks due to cancer (and femurs don't "just break" if they do it's usually because osteo has eaten it) it is too late to do anything else but hold your dog and say goodbye. You will be doing him a huge favor. Osteo is INCREDIBLY painful. Hold his head and say goodbye within the next hour. Anylonger and you are just being selfish...

| I know you don't want your boy to suffer. It is heartbreaking, I know from personal experience just how heartbreaking, but no matter what you do to try and extend his life from here, you will not fix him. You will be condemning him to more suffering. Please let your vet help you put your precious friend to rest now. His spirit will never die, so all you are doing is releasing him from a terrible pain that cannot be fixed. He needs you to do that for him, just like he was there for you all his life. Please understand. I'm so sorry. |

| Quit thinking of YOURSELVES! Think of him and his quality of life. He deserves to pass on to the bridge where he can be pain free. He has given you wonderful memories, don't let him suffer in pain just because you are too weak to remove him from it. I am sorry you have to go through this, but it is part of the responsibility of owning a pet. Hold him as he goes, he will only think he is taking a nap in your arms.

| Of COURSE he is alert! But, he is in pain, make no mistake about it. They do not show it, as they are incredibly stoic, but it's there. His dignity is part of the very essence of his being... as is his loyalty to you. He is still trying to please you, and do what he thinks YOU want. He has had a long, full life. If the cancer reached the stage to break his leg, it is NOT just in that spot. There ARE no other avenues, no other alternatives. You MUST be strong enough to do what is right for him, and not keep him alive for the selfish reasons you have. Let him go now, to end his suffering, and deal with your conflicting emotions later.
