Talking Cushing's

I took Bear to the Vet and had the blood work completed. He has been drinking a lot of h20 for the past 10 days. I know it is hot and humid here in S. E. Mo. evenings been 95-99 heat index over 100. Bear is an inside dog
only out maybe 1 1/2 hour a day since it's been so hot. He also was panting
a lot at night, not doing the day only at night. He has hypothyroidism and receives his two tablets a day. His blood work came back with high liver count and the Vet is looking at cushings. He is not a diabetic, that was good,
his kidneys no problem there. She is doing more blood work to verify this.
Any one with iformation would surely appreciate. Praying my big guy comes out OK. He also takes two glucosomine a day, ester c, and flax seed.
His weight is 162 lbs. used to be 184. He did not loose this weight over night it has taken me 4 years to get this off of him.

Thanks
Gail And Bear

I am going through this with my girl right now. Here is an excellent description of it - Cushing's

The medication for it is very harsh and my girl is to old to put her through that. She actually gained about 9 lbs due to water retention and her abdominal area is swollen so that she looks pregnant. In the article you will see that there is another test that can be run and, while not 100% definitive, can be a very good indicator. If it is Cushing's, there is no real pain but there is discomfort and a lot of panting unless sleeping (a lot of that too). When sleeping there will be shorter breaths but it should not alarm you. At this stage, for my girl, I am keeping her as comfortable as possible and while I still see the spark in her eyes and she maintains her dignity she will be with us. Good luck with your dog.

Update On Rottie Bear

The Vet just called and it's not Cushings , (Thank God). His thyroid panel is expected in sometime Monday. I tell you living in a rural (less than 5000) area after being a city (Chicago)dweller for 30 years, waiting on results rattles my nerves. All the other blood work is good. She stated we might need to adjust his thyroid meds, I pray that's all.
