| Cherry Eye I've just adopted a 7 mo. Rottie boy who has Cherry Eye. My vet says it's a simple procedure to correct and he would go home same day. The vet has performed the procedure before but is not a board certified veterinary opthamologist. I also have the alternative of traveling to NYC city where there is an opthamologist. They would do the procedure and keep the dog a day or two. I've read up on Cherry Eye and can't decide if it is necessary to do the opthamologist or if my results would be just as good with my vet. Looking for anyone who has had a procedure of kind done and was it done by a vet or opth specialist. Sue NY

| I do it routinely as a general practitioner. It's a simple procedure, definitely not rocket science. |

| Sue - My girl was 6 mos old when she developed the "cherry eye", or prolapsed 3rd eyelid gland. After talking it over with our vet, I chose to have a veterinary ophthalmologist perform the surgery. There's a significant difference in the cost when utilizing a specialist. We were fortunate, our breeder paid 50% of the total. If you decide to use a specialist, go to the ACVO website for a diplomate in your area; http://www.acvo.com Best wishes - kathy |

| Tyson had it at about 4 months it took 2 surgerys to get rid of it, I just had my regular vet do it. Most of the time it only takes 1 surgery, I'd say just go with your vet. There is another thread on this, look it up. |

| We have a boy in the RRUFF program that has had two surgeries for cherry eye. Apparently there are 4 different repairs that can be done (thats what I have been told) and if one does not correct it, another can be done. Idiot vet that did the 1st surgery on the dog kept no record of how the repair was done, it is only noted as 'eye surgery'...we're hoping surgery #2 corrects it better than the 1st one. |

| E Collar Thanks everyone - the vet said that Jake would have to wear an E collar for about 5 days and that she will neuter him at the same time. Jake is a very active puppy, how do they handle wearing that collar? Sue NY
