My boy ripped off his toe-nail

Got up this morning and Bear was limping around a little, apparently he got his toe hooked up on the cage lastnight, and decided to pull till it came loose. Any way all the black hard stuff on one of his toes is missing, the stuff inside the toenail is still there, the pink looking stuff, not bleeding at all. He's been laying around and licking it all day. But it dosent really seem to bother him, not even outside.
Any ideas what i can do for him ?

1.7 yrs. Male
Thanks,
Chris.

You should take him to the vet to let them help him out so he doesn't injure the quick which can be very painful to him.

Hope he recovers quickly!

Toby did the same thing....whole nail came off and left the pink bit...took him to the Vet who just said to keep it clean with a salt water rinse....so I just took Toby to the beach and let him run around in the water....it never bothered him and healed quickly.
If you don't have a beach then just rinse in a salt water solution.

thanks, salt water it is........
vet told me not to let him lick it, may cause infection, but a bandage is outa the question, he might leave it on for 5 seconds. so we'll see how it goes.
thanks for the advice.

Chris.
