| Cherry Eye Anyone have any experience with Cherry Eye? I have a lovely Boxer in my living room with a lovely left eye. The Humane Society will surgically correct it for about $200. Animal Control said that the surgery would cost about $2,000 to $5,000! He had been there for almost a month with no one interested in adopting. I am sure that it was because of the cost they quoting for the surgery.

| My future SIL's PugxJRT had a cherry eye when he was a pup. They corrected it at the same time that they did his neuter surgery. I'm not exactly sure what causes the cherry eye but I do know that when it becomes irritated and inflamed it can be very painful. He has not had any problems with that eye at all since the surgery. | Apparently Boxers (and other dogs like Pugs) are prone to this: http://boxerworld.com/forums/archive...hp/t-4135.html

| Tyson had Cherry eye when he was about 4 months old last year, it took 2 surgerys to get rid of it completely. I think that it cost about $250 the first time than the vet did it at cost the 2nd time which was about $120. Most of the time it is fixed with the first surgery. |

| I've had 2 bulldogs with cherry eye. The surgery can be quite simple, tack down the gland. OR more evasive, removing the gland. I had both ways done. With removal of the gland, artifical tears are needed to prevent dry eye. I prefer the tacking method. And cost factor less expensive with the tacking. Either way, between $200 - $400. IMO the $2000 to $5000 is way way out of the ball park.

| yeah my neo had cherry eye it's sometimes caused by puttng a collar on the pup to soon or when they have loose skin i know with neos you should not put a collar on them until after 4 months old and the best way to get rid of it is to have it snipped out instead of tacked down because most times it reappears. |

| My Cedar had cherry eye when he was rescued. A vet performed the surgery for free for the rescue group. While the bottom eyelid is slightly different in appearance (a little pinker) we have had no issues. Cedar loves to swim, swim, swim.... and so far even that has not been a problem. |

I asked the vet about it today - he'd charge no more than $500 for it, and if the dog needed a repeat surgery, he'd do it half price for the 2nd surgery! |
