wattery eyes, squinting, pawing at the eyes and sneezing......

Ok guys I am a little worried about Harley. In the last day and a half his eyes have been watering, he is squinting and he keeps pawing at his eyes. Paul said this morning he was sneezing. I was wanting an opinion if I should take him to the vet or try to give him benedril myself at home. if so what kind? Childrens? Adults? how much?

I have an appointment tommorow at the vet just in case I dont hear anything back from anyone. I have never had a dog with allergies, so I am not sure what to look for and if I should treat it myself or let a vet do it.

A number of eye conditions can cause similar symptoms. You will want the vet to make the diagnosis in order for your dog to receive the proper treatment and medication. If Benedryl is needed, your vet will tell you the type and dosage to use.

I have a dog owners home vet handbook. I noticed it had a LOT of eye conditions that all have watery eyes, squinting, and pawing at the eye. EEK! I am going to keep his appointment. I THINK it may be allergies just simply because of the symptoms all at once. But I will take him to the Vet to see what she says. Thanks!

When Mocha got dust in her eyes she had the same symptoms (at least we knew the cause right away) so I would keep that appointment since it may be something other than allergies.

Charleigh had an eye condition called anterior uveitis that caused all the symptoms you mentioned except for sneezing. It did require a trip to the vet, a flouroscopic eye exam and special medication. He only has 2 eyes. I'd taken him in if home remedies haven't worked.

Cally used to pick up eye infections ( no goop just watering and squinting..) from swimming in the lake near by. They were easily cured by prescription drops/ointment.

I havent tried to treat it myself, I noticed it last night after midnight. I HAD to come to work today due to the fact that I am at a new job and on probation with out ANY vacation time. I have to come to work at noon tommorow so I will take him in before I have to work. I might just try to turn on the Cool Mist humidifier in the bedroom tonight and not let him outside unless he REALLY has to potty. I feel terrible for the poor guy! If it is Allergies I am pretty sure he feels TERRIBLE! =( Ill have to take his bedding out of his crate when I get home and wash it in hot water and then put it back in his crate so he can get some rest in his cozy clean bed. Thanks for the advice. I will take him to the vet tommorow morning to see what she has to say.
