Lightbulb New Vet ??

I just went to my vet (only have been going there for the last 3 month) and I am pretty ticked off...When she asked me what I feed Emma I told her she is on Innova and she told me she had no knowledge about Innova (WHAT) and recomended Science diet for her?(Even gave me a sample)
I believe she is a professional but after reading a lot of posts on this site about the best possible food my puppie should be on I am wondering about her education...
Due to this forum I have changed Emma's food to Canidea. She seems to like it.
I think it is time to change vet's..........
Any input?

Vets recommend Science Diet bcause many get MONEY fromthe company for selling it - the more they sell the more money they get from the company.

Donate the sample to the shelter and keep feeding the food you are happy with. Innova is a good food...maybe bring a sample to the vet so you can compare the ingredients with Science Diet and prove it is a better food...!!!

I wouldn't either.

Our vet has her own opinion on what we're feeding Julius...& that's fine. We agree to disagree. BUT, her vet care is the best in town & that's what I'm paying for. Like Larry, I wouldn't change just because of that.

I wouldn't either.

Many vets are completely ignorant of nutrition and feeding practice. Doesn't mean she's a bad vet.......how many doctors do you think are truly schooled on current nutrition? Same problem in the animal world.

I wouldn't change vets either. Both my regular vets and the ortho that did Charleigh's TPLO's recommend and sell Science Diet, altho I think my regular vet is seeing the error of his ways. I still respect both highly for their knowledge and treatment of my dogs.

I wouldn't change vets either. I was very spoiled with our vets in Rochester - they were very knowledgable about foods and holistic meds. Now, as long as our vet treats my dogs and cat well, and with respect (and not fear), I'm happy. He has no clue about food, but his philosophy is as long as it works for the dog, stick with it.

When I was feeding Sarge Innova and the vet did not know about it I took in the information about Innova and he was impressed.
I never knew about Innova and other premium foods until I came here.
So do not change vets..

My vet was also unfamiliar with the super premium foods recommended here at rott.net. When I switched over to Canidae, I cut out the ingredients list from the back of a bag of Canidae and brought it to her. She was so impressed that now she recommends Canidae as well as some of the other super premiums.
