Puppy Acne or ?

Boy, I am my wits end with my puppy bitch! She has had some sort of skin infection and the vet has changed meds twice and it is no better? She is three months old.

This started over a month ago with some tiny pimples around her back legs and belly plus very strange looking skin on her head. Right between her ears first and then spreading down to her muzzle. The best description I can think of is "moth eaten" looking hair. The first vet visit she did scrapings and ruled out either type of mange? She was put on Clavamox and I bathed her everyother day with medicated shampoo. It got no better so I quit the baths and the vet went to Cephalexin 250 twice a day. This has gone on for a week and it is no better. Today I found a bare spot on her elbow with a pimple there? I read in one my old vet books to cleanse with deluted hydrogen perioxide. I tried that today as her last pill is tomorrow but they have not made any difference anyway and I hate to put a puppy on antibiotics so young? anyone have any ideas on this or been through this with a puppy? Thanks...

puppies can get puppy pyoderma on skin which are little postule like pimples around belly and inner thighs.antibiotics (usually cephalexin),and a topical cream like bactoderm or animax can help it.
but, what you are describing sounds more involved.
did they suggest repeating the skin scrape?
did you try a dermatologist vet?

by the way, one week antibiotic for skin is usually not enough.
most regimes for skin are 21 days or so.

Thanks Targonrotts....I will be a little more patient with the meds and will mention the time element to my vet. And will get another scrape this week if no improvement. The vet's diagnosis was the same as yours.

Puppy acne usually refers to little pimples that can arise in the folds under the chin and if kept clean, goes away on its own. If not demonex, this sounds more like a staph infection, but even if the meds have not been given long enough for a complete cure, if they are the correct one to hit the infection (assuming an infection) you should have seen improvement certainly after a week if not sooner. I would request another scraping not only for examine for mites but also for culture and sensitivity instead of simply moving from one type of antibiotic to another.
