Talking Pyometra or Yeast Infection

Okay...my girl had some white/clearish drainage from vulva a week ago..saw vet..who swabbed, did blood work, and urine sample..all looking pretty normal. Vet didn't have an ultrasound machine and said could xray that may or may not show anything..we decided to watch her and see how she does. It has been a week now and no other symptoms..just occasional white drainage from vulva that has no odor to it. Can dogs have a yeast infection like humans?

they can have vaginitis.
with a pyo, there are 2 forms.
a closed and an open case.
closed pyos usually don't drain, dog is lethargic, fever, may vomit, high white blood cell count, abdomen may appear bloated/distended,xray shows a large uterus.
in an open case, you see discharge, from a white pus like creamy discharge to a bloody/brown discharge.may or may not smell right away, dog can still feel ok and act normal because its draining or can show above signs/results.
sometimes if pyo is very early stage, bloodwork may still appear normal.
if still discharging, i would repeat bloodwork and send out a vaginal culture to see if has any other pathogen raeson...and maybe consider an xray.
how old is she?
most pyos are common in intact bitches over 5.but can happen anytime.
sometimes(more rare),in a spayed bitch and it's called a stump pyometria,which
is the part that stays behind of the uterus neck after a spay.
vaginitis or infection of urinary tract can also cause discharge, that's why i'd suggest cultures.

Ever since we brought out puppy home at 10 wks (she is 19 wks now) she has had a discharge. She went through two cycles of Clavamox..no results. At this point since there is no fever or difficulty urinating or blood in urine the vet told us that puppy vaginitis is common and that she will outgrow it (??!) He also suggested a more holistic approach..organic yogurt, a little unfiltered apple cider vinegar in her water..which seemed to eliminate it. She was spayed yesterday and it looks like there is a mild discharge. Targonrotts I am wondering if your vet mentioned this being somewhat common ??

yes, it is common in puppy females.part of the reason, they squat to go urinate.
and yes, that holistic approach has worked on some pups i've known, and they usually outgrow it.now, as to discharge after spay...is it the same or different?
remember to ask the vet if any concerns just to be sure.

luvtobeanurse, one and a half is young.but like stated before, pyos can happen at any age,it's just more common in over 5,intact,never bred bitches.
