I had one of my boys diagnosed with a grade 3 heart murmur when he went in for his first rabies shot at 6 months old.

When he was older, I took him to a certified cardiologist, who did a doppler on him, and determined that the heart murmur was there to stay, but certified his heart "clear" of SAS.

My vet mentioned that when he got older, he might have to go on meds if he started having any problems. He is now 10 years old, moving a little slower than his younger years, is NOT on any heart medication, and he's very healthy and still full of p*ss and vinegar !!

Hi Roxy. I have a dog with a heart murmur, that turned out to be SAS (sub-aortic stenosis). Murmurs in young pups are common, and many dogs do outgrow them before 6 months. They will probably recommend if the murmur is still audible after 1 year of age to do an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound). This is where they can (not always) distinguish if its SAS, or pulmonary stenosis (which isn't as bad). Read these trheads, lots of good info.
