Buster was neutered

Hi all
Buster was finally neutered last wednesday he is 23 months old.
Will this make him gain weight or change his personality?
I thought he should be done if i am not going to use him as a stud dog.
Thanks

My Buster (who went to the Bridge on 12/17/04) was neutered at 19 months. There was no weight gain and was as mellow as when he was intact. Hope all went well and he's back to normal ASAP.

I had a previous male (not Rottweiler) neutered when he was a couple of years old. The only thing that really changed on him was he didn't wake me up to go out at 3:30 a.m. anymore... He did gain some weight, but I'm not sure it was necessarily because of him being neutered.

You did the right thing!

You shouldn't really notice much in the way of weight gain or personality change. Some dogs do experience a drop in metabolism, if that's the case and he seems to put on weight, just cut back his food, or increase his exercise.

I have a Buster that will be going in to be neutered in a few weeks.
He is almost 4,he is a UKC Grand CH and he has a few AKC best of breeds,I want to do Obed with him now as I am happy with what he has done so far. After he is neutered he will be trailing for his AKC and UKC CD's and Rally titles.
Everyone has differences on what age is good to neuter.I think what ever works for you,and the Breeder.

My last appointment with his vet asked if we planned on neutering him, I told her yes. She said that he could be neutered now, the younger the less problems they usually have?? He is only 3 months old??

Most vets wait until 6mos. There is also a study showing that waitung til closer to 17mos with males lowers their risk of osteosarcoma.

Read this thread.

This must only happen in Rottweilers.I have been talking to alot of other breeders and they have never heard of this in their breed. They also will continue to neuter before 6 months.
I've had dogs die of cancer after being spayed at a late age.So until they can prove this to me all puppies sold as pets will still be spayed and neutered before 6 months of age.

The study I posted the link to was specifically done in Rottweilers, and done at Purdue University. It is a relatively new study, but probably if the breeds you spoke to don't have problems with osteosarcoma, they would not be familiar with the study.

Spaying a bitch is different, and that is also covered in the above link.

As a breeder, I now recommend to my pet homes to wait until at least 12mos, both genders.
