pyometra

hi
I have a foster dog, who was diagonosed with pyometra and went for an emergency spay today. she has been perscribed some antibiotics for the next 14 days but I was wondering if anyone out there has any advice on how to help her recover. I've never delt with this condition before and am a little out of depth. just a little background zashi is a 4-5yr boxer who came into our shelter last week as a stray. she is rather over weight and has a very poor coat missing patches of fur. I plan to have her checked for a thyroid condition after shes a little better frrom the pyro.
so basically just wondering if i should be doing anything special to help her get better?
thanks

You may want to get her thyroid checked sooner than later, as it will affect her healing time.

If you're at all into homeopathic remedies, try 1M Arnica. I use it on the dogs all the time, and recently took it after my own c-section with excellent results.

You can use a heat lamp to help heal the incision. If she'll lay on her side or back, hold the light a few inches above her, a few times a day. Not sure why, but the heat really does help the incision heal. This was suggested to me by my vet after my bitch's c-section several years ago.

Vitamin C will help with healing the tissue also. Ester C is easier on the stomach, start with low doses, 250mg per day and increase until she's on 1000mg per day, or as her stomach will tolerate it. Vitamin C is water soluble, but if introduced at too high of a dose, can cause loose stools.

Good luck with her, hope she has a healthy recovery!

I know the thryoid needs to be looked at asap. I've been incontact with a rescue about her and when she goes to them it will be taken care of by their vet. I will pick up some vitamin c or ester c (depending on what i can find) tom. I don't know ifshe'ss let me use a heat lamp on her but its worth a shot. I'm not to sure about this one,1M Arnica, where would i find it? a health food store?
thank you so much for a speedy reply and helpful info:)
