| so mad about treatment in vet's office... I started a thread tonight asking if anyone has a needle through the abdomen into the bladder for a urine sample...thread made me feel better...I was told a vet tech could perform this procedure and I am dealing with a different vet than normal as ours was on vacation....I called back to say I was very uncomfortable with the vet tech doing the procedure and that I really did not understand it and I would like an appointment to see the vet and have the vet do it...ok, come in at 8:45....WELL, i get there and the vet tech comes out and says hi to us and the receptionist says to her "the emergency is here clear the floor" She promptly gets up and says we have an emergency dog bite wound and I need to clear the floor...takes my pup and quickly goes in the back - emergency comes in and is taken care of...I ask where is Yogi as I simultaniously hear her screaming! They tell me she is having the needle done by the tech......urrrrgggghghg...WHAT?? The tech (who dealt wonderfully with my sick elderly female) comes out with her and says, "She was extremely nippy just so you know and she peed on the floor" WHAT? Did she bite you? No, she growled and in general was just bad....lets see...total strangers rushed her away from me and pinned her on her belly and stuck her with a needle in her belly through to her bladder....I would have been grumpy too ...to make matter WORSE I say did you get a sample? she responds yes..you are all set...ALL SET? I have not seen the doctor and that is why I am here at 9 at night...oh, well let me see...they put me in the waiting room for 45 more minutes...after telling the vet I am unhappy about everything she informs me that they did not get a clean sample but they did use what was on the floor!!!!!!! WHAT??????? I am soooo PISSED...so, good people of rott.net am I overreacting? Do I need to get over it and move on? Oh yeah btw, the vet could not even examine her because she was so scared...She was codeling her on the floor and IMHO purpetuating the situation instead of dealing with it....I picked her up, put her on the exam table and told her it was ok, in a calm reassuring voice and then shut up while I held her let the vet finally exam her...oh yeah I also paid for 6 months of interceptor and they nver gave it to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!So long, but i feel better just getting it off my chest - thanks for reading f you made it this far!!

| Yikes I think I'd be a little angry, too! When we get emergencies, we are still polite to the clients who were already there. As for your dog not handling the pulling of the urine . . . they do put them on their backs . . . and I've met many a good dog who suddenly can become not so nice in this situation with a stranger. It sounds like they didn't handle this very well. As for them making you wait for the doctor, if they scheduled you in for a tech appt, then it wasn't a doctor appt, hence the wait. However, it sounds like when you scheduled it they weren't very clear with you, explaining everything to you, and taking care of your concerns as the owner. And that was very nice of them to forget your interceptor on top of it all . Poor Yogi! It really doesn't have to be such a traumatic experience, and I'm sorry they made it that way for you! I dunno, before I worked for a vet I was EXTREMELY picky about where I took my pets, and I would probably have switched vets over something like this, unless I was completely thrilled with them in the past. Good luck, and I'm sorry it went down like that. |

| I will never go back to her....the office is always ciotic (sp?) and over booked but I LOVE my regular vet - damn vacations! They had originally scheduled me for a tech appt at 6 pm and I called back to say that I was uncomfortable and wanted to see the doc and have her examined and explain the produre....now I have a 9 pm to see the doc...or so I thought...thanks for the kind words

| I do not use vets that take my dog out of my sight for procedures. Period. Never. The vets I use are more than happy to have me with the dog and any restraint needed is done by me. Yes, you are very entitled to be furious. She pissed because they scared the hell out of her (or rather the piss out of her). Poor little girl.

| I have never had her removed from me before ever - we have been using this office (never this vet) for 12 years - I really thought they just shuffled her to get her out of the way of the injured...my regular vet who owns the place will have to unfortunately hear from me...I gave her a big marrow bone when we got home...chewed it for 10 minutes then went to sleep with her head on it!!

| we will have to see what the sample from the floor reveals..what a joke....well as i am typing away I can feel the tension in my shoulders and she is snoring at my feet...at the end of a bad night all is well again...(of course she may never want to go to the vet anymore)

| That was terrible treatment of Yogi and of you. Just reading it makes me angry. I hope that you get some apologies after you speak with your regular vet. If you do not, then I think that you should be looking for another vet. If your regular vet is not incensed at what happened, then I don't think you should ever feel secure at that office again. |

| I certainly hope you explained your unhappiness with how it was all done to the vet - and please please please do NOT pay for that testing of the urine from the FLOOR...no good can come of that. There is no telling WHAT kind of creeping cruds will show up in the results - and you will not know if it is from the dog or from whatever came up off the floor when they took the sample. Complain - LOUDLY about how you and your dog were treated. That said - I have never allowed any of my dogs to have anything done unless I was there. Neutering or other surgery, obviously, is a different story, but when Thelda had to have a chest xray, I donned the lead apron and went with her... |

| Glad you are calming down - but you are actually MORE than justified in being appalled at how you were treated. I would print this thread out and show it to whoever is in charge so that they can read for themselves what you went through!

| I do not blame you for being mad. tis why I am happy I have my vet. Even when I took Sarge in to be neutered, Sarge growled a bit and was not too happy with the vet so the Vet called me and said we cannot do it. I do not want to make Sarge mad and I want us to be friends. (sarge and him) So I turned around and picked him up. The next time I gave Sarge a pill to calm him and I stayed until they put him under. But my vet went out of their way to help me and Sarge. So yep I would not step foot in there again if I was you.

| Regardless, the whole point of a needle collection is to have a sterile collection for a culture and sensitivity. No way should you pay for or give any credibility to culture and sensitivity lab work done from pee collected from the floor!!! It would be meaningless and you'd have a cleaner collection done with a soup ladle in the back yard.

| hrmmph, i am more calm this morning but your input as to the sensitivity of the culture was the whole reason for this nightmare visit...you are right not only should I not pay but they should not have even thought about sending a urine sample off the floor....I just called my vet and left him a brief but concerned message telling him I was very upset with everyone I came into contact with in his office last night....he will be out of the office Thurs thru Monday...I should hope he would call me today then...I won't hold my breath tho...i will keep you posted

| Switch vets. YOu will not change the way they treat animals, and do things. ITs the way they do business. PLUS, you do not want your dog learning to HATE the vets. BAD BAD BAD thing to have to deal with forever. I have probably one of the most expensive vets in my area. Every time its time to do something, I call around for pricing, just to see how much their gouging me. But ya know, its worth it ONLY because Vegas LOVEs the staff, they treat him well, he NEVER gives them a hassle, they can poke him with needles, put IV's in him and he doesn't flinch. For that reason alone, I will not risk switching vets, so he has a bad experience, and then gets defensive every time your in for something. Not worth the hassle, the trauma to your dog.
