| Front leg limping My female is limping on her front leg again. She injured it two month ago and we let her rest and she healed fine. The vet was not worried and said if she tore anything she could not put any weight on the leg. She began limping again two weeks ago and we again put her on restrictive activities (no rough play or running). Today she is limping again and whining when she moves suddenly. Should I request an xray even though my vet feels it is unnecessary? |

| I would. Did you see the injury take place or are you assuming an injury? Ask for an xray. Is she an athelete?

| I assumed injury. She came inside from being out for a potty break and was limping and yelping in pain. She tends to be over dramatic about her soreness and limps and yelps only when I am around. At the vets office she walked normally with only slight limp that only I noticed. Any way the vet did not think it was anything to worry and just give her some rest. Within the week my dog forgot about her leg and was acting normal. A few weeks later she began to limp again which is when we put her on bed rest again. We were gone on vacation last week with my sister watching the dogs. Yesterday, the day after we returned from vacation my dog started limping again with yelping when she quickly gets up or a quick turn. |

| Sorry to hear this. I vote for radiographs too. Maybe they weren't warranted on the previous visit, but they sure are now. If nothing else it will rule out some things so you can be sure what you are treating. I'll be hoping for good news for you.

| Just a thought from one of my experiences. I will tell you that if soft tissue injury, it can take up to two or three months of restriction to fully heal. We think a few weeks rest, dog is not limping - dog is healed. Too often dog has started the healing, but back to activity too soon and they simply keep reinjuring. (ask me how I know this????) I had a bitch that hurt herself herding and would appear fine and there it would show up again. Hundreds of dollars later and the recommendation of anti inflamatories and restriction for 3 months!!! - did that and she never limped again. Restriction consisted of living in my bedroom, out for relieving herself supervised only and some time in the LR supervised.
