Roxie Post-TPLO Update

Roxie is eating well but her spirits are low and she is refusing to get up on her own to go potty. Gerald is having to use the sling to pick her up and then coax her out of the crate. After that she will walk outside and go pee but keeps stopping and refusing to move, he sys she is worse than any mule. She is not walking on her leg at all so far. Our vet said there is no need for concern about her not wanting to get up for the first 10 days to 2 weeks. They actually prefer a dog to just lie around during that time. However, if she is still refusing to get up by the time they take out her staples, then we will have to do something, probably therapy, to keep the muscles from freezing up. She is being very good about Gerald putting ice on her leg below the incision where the fluid is building up, even lets him touch her incision, something Sajan wouldn’t do for a while.

Our vet was not surprised to hear Roxie was behaving this way considering she is a relatively new rescue. She was just getting comfy us and now we do this to her. Hopefully in time she will see that we were tying to help her and find a reason to want to get up again.

Please keep her in your thoughts

Great news and prayers go out for a speedy recovery to Roxie. I'm sure in time she will forgive you.
