Eye problem..... What to do??

Last night Maverick (who was 4 months on Mon) seemed to have his right eye partially closed. I checked it out and it seemed to be a little blood shot as well. I asked my wife if he had been fighting with the cats and yelped at all and she said she couldn't remember him fighting with the cats at all during the day (thats a change). I put a cold cloth on it for as long as he would let me, but he got sick of it being there pretty fast.... Maybe 20 mins later he seemed to be fine. Then later in the night I noticed him half closing it again..... This morning I didn't notice anything wrong with his eye.... So I am not sure what is going on....

Any thoughts or suggestions???

Any build up of mucus, especially in the am? Try rinsing it out with saline solution. If this is abnormal and your worried, I'd take him into the vets.

My dog's eye was irritated and puffy the other night after our hike in the woods. He didn't have any debris or mucus in it but it was also bloodshot.

By the morning, it was gone. The woods are full of black bugs and mosquitoes which could have irritated him.

Cyrus's right eye gets like that from time to time and it is because he has entropian. I wipe it with a moist soft cloth.

The vet says he is OK for now but may need surgery in the future.

Arwen's eye did that a few weeks ago; I took her to work and the doctor prescribed an eye ointment. It was gone by the next day. Good luck!

could be his eyelid is turning in and his eyelashes are causing the irritation. If it keeps up, take him to the vet.

Well, his eye is still bloodshot somewhat, but I haven't seen him half closing it anymore.

My Buster had similar symptoms and it was a scratched cornea, caused by entropian. Vet can do a simple test to check the cornea.

Yeah it seems to be improving. If it isn't gone soon I will take him to the vet.

By any chance does it look green coated too? If so get him to the vet soon for some meds. It could be what one of my pups had.. an eye ulcer.

No I haven't seen any greenish colour to it. Also, I am happy to report that last night when I checked on it, it was significantly better then the day before. The redness in the eye had improved a lot. I believe his eye will probably be back to normal when I check it tonight...

Thanks everyone for the replies!
