Thumbs up Lump? Boil? on rear end

I gave Bruno a bath this morning and did not notice anything unusual. We were just outside playing ball and when he turned I noticed something on his rear end. It appears to be the size of a half dollar, but like a boil. It isn't red it's more of a greyish color. I applied some pressure on it an Bruno sat down- don't know if it hurt or not. It is not coming out of the anus, but on the side of it. I will call the vet tomorrow morning- just wondering if you guys experienced anything like this before?

Sounds like it might be an impacted anal gland...a trip to the vet would be a good idea, especially if it is painful to him...

Can you apply a warm compress to it to help bring down the swelling???

As soon as he is done ripping up the rest of my grass and calms down, I will try to apply a warm facecloth to it. I never had this experience before---thought the anal gland thing was more for shepherds and the like. Thanks Anne for the advice!

My brohter in laws rott'n girl had an anal gland explosion (OK, it ruptured and smelled HORRID) and she needed surgery...she gets 'squeezed' by the vet once a month just to be on the safe side...

Iria has had several anal gland impactions, and some of them ruptured - yuck!!! They are not fun. You can also soak your dog's rear (have them sit) in a warm bath with epsom salts, as well as applying warm compresses to loosen it up, but a vet visit is definitely in order.
