worms?!?!?!

My rott pup Lady has had worms since we have gotten her at 6 weeks. She was the last pup left because the owner had sold the rest of them at 5 weeks. (stupid owner). Anyway, I have taken her the the vet, got over the counter meds, i've tried everything and it's always the same thing. They go away for about 3 weeks and then come back again.. Any suggestions?? I don't want her to die and I heard that could happen. How do I get rid of them?

Sometimes it takes awhile to get rid of them. Also make sure your pup does nto have fleas. And it is not eating other feces, even its own. Watch where you are taking this pup.
Forget the over the counter stuff use the vet stuff. Talk to your vet and ask him/her what else you should do.
I know with Sarge they had to give him a stronger dose one time to finally kick it.

What kind of worms does she have? She should be getting prescription meds that are specific for the type of worms she has. A vet can tell you that. Be sure to keep all droppings picked up, and like Sargeant C said, don't let her eat feces. Worm eggs are shed in the feces.....she's reinfecting herself somehow.

if it's tapeworms-they get from ingesting fleas.
if it's whips, rounds, or hooks-you need to pick up feces and clean areas.
make sure you get the right dewormer for the parasite the puppy has.
the over the counter stuff is not that good.
i personally like panacur for the 3 worms i mentioned above.
droncit for the tapeworms.
albon for coccidia.
and must follow directions on them for maximum potency.
good luck!

Not only do you need to keep the piles picked up ( yup right after the pup goes!) but you also need to change where the pup goes.

Round worm eggs, Whip worm eggs can and will live in dirt. Will refest if eaten or licked off coat.

Hook worm eggs go into the larve stage (while in the dirt)and can reinfest by going thru the skin, eaten or licked off coat.

Tape worm eggs or segments are passed thru the feces and eaten by larva fleas then passed to the dog. Another type of tape worm (from horses, sheep, cows ...ect) can also infest the pup if you let them eat infested feces or roll in infested feces and then lick their fur.

Most of these are passed to the pup from the mother.
Do not let the pup dig in that area either. Or kids
All of the above worms can and have infested humans. So take precaution and be gloved or never touch the feces with bare skin.

Basic handling practices should be adopted:
• Discourage pets form licking faces. (Pup just comes in from nosing around in dirt, or just licking the genitals )
• Make sure people wash their hands, and do not place their fingers in their mouth, after handling pets.

Puppies should be wormed fortnightly from 6 weeks until 12 weeks old. This particularly important against roundworm, tapeworm, whipworm and hookworm.

Over 12 weeks of age- once a month until 6 months old.
Dogs over 6 months old- once every 3 months.

Until the pup has a clear bill of health
good luck

After you change where she goes put LYME down and don't let her in there for about a month or until all of it is absorbed. The Lyme will kill the worms
