No Heat Cycle?

Hi everyone!

I have not been on the forum as much as I'd like to, due to a very busy schedule, but I have a serious question, I think?

Mira will be 14 months old on May 4, and I do not believe she has had a heat cycle. She is crated, and then in doors most of time, and I spend a ton of time with her. However, I still have never seen any real sign. I thought she was going to have one a little before she turned a year old, but never anything obvious.

She is very active, playful, goofy, etc, and weighs a lean and muscular 80 pounds. Should I wait a few more months to see if she goes through onem or???

Thank you,

Nathan

Well it could be serious if she doesn't however I wouldn't fret over it. My first show girl Lexi didn't have her first heat cycle until she was around 16 months old, and before she was spayed she only had one heat a year.
There isn't a whole lot you can do other than wait, if I wanted to do something preliminary to check I would run a thyroid panel and have the vet give her a good once over to make sure nothing else is going on.

I'm going to jump in here too. Reecee just came into her 1st heat last Fri/Sat, but the blood started really dripping this morning. She will be 9 months tomorrow. My breeder suggested she have at least one heat before spaying her due to hormones/maturity. She does not know the dog door exists but will be shown it when she's safe - how long do I wait, I've read 3 weeks or so, but want specifics.

I have always spayed my dogs and it was always done before any heats so this is new to me. She will be spayed at around 12 months and I can't wait! I hated keeping her in the basement all these months while at work when there is a 1/2 acre fenced yard with 5 1/2 foot picket fence for her pleasure via a dog door.

Thanks!

At one point when I thought she might be close to starting, she did seem to be blowing coat, with a tiny bit of swelling. At this point, I may wait a few months, and take her to the vet if need be.

Thanks

Some girls show very little outward signs of being in heat. It also could have been a "silent heat", where there really aren't any visible signs.

Wink

My female rottie was fourteen or fifteen months old before she had her first heat cycle and then she had one about every seven months afterward.

I brought her home Oct 04, she was 13 weeks, kinda of a scaredy cat, and not house broken. She has a crate and sleeps in the room with me which is also the palor in the old house I'm renovating. I wanted her with me so I could get her housebroken and because all was strange for her. We stay together except when I go to work weekdays.

Since she couldn't stay crated all day, my neighbor made an 8 foot by 8 foot cage in the basement with pee papers on one side and her bed, toys, chews and water on the other. I never let her know about the dog door because she was too small to be outside without me and as she got larger, I knew if I showed her the freedom of the dog door, it would be hard to keep her from pummeling it trying to get out when I had to lock her back in while in heat. As soon as the heats over, she's going to be introduced to the new found freedome of her own door.

I did Doberman rescue a while back and adopted a large sweet male (now deceased) - I had to keep him in when I had contractor's working outside on the house. He was just sooooo upset and could not believe that dog door wouldn't push through for him. He battered the heck out of that door. So, I thought it best to not even let Ree know it existed until after her heat cycle.

So, can anyone tell me how long it'll take her to finish her heat?

I believe that most Rottweilers are intelligent enough to know when the panel for the dog door is in place and accept that. I know mine do. Seasons usually last about 3 weeks, but can certainly last longer for some individuals.

Hmmmm, you sorta went around commenting on the intelligence of Doberman's, lol. I think it's that Black & Tan Terrier back there in the Doberman lines that make some of them so hard-headed.

As a kid, we had GSDs, I had 2 Rotts in my life before adding Dobermans. Now, I'll continue with Rottweilers.

But then, if there's a will, there's a way with Rotts. My last one chewed off the bottom of a wooden picket on our fence, just enough to get the kid's ball lieing next to the backside of the picket in my neighbors yard. But, that's all about Rotts and their balls, lol. Reecee has turned on the shower pulling off a wash cloth she was stealing, lol. And I could go on and on about the Houdinism amongst Rottweilers, mine have always made me laugh. Yeah, but neither of them battered themselves senseless like my Dobie did, lol!

She is in season

Just wanted to give a quick update that Mira is now in season. I think I may have just missed her first heat.
