Razor blade :( I feel like such an IDIOT for leaving them on the coffee table but he NEVER messes with anything. Yesterday morning when I woke up I came out into the living room and saw he had chewed up one of the razors that were on the coffee table. I picked up all of the pieces and I know I threw one razor away. When I went to take my shower last night, I realized that there are actually 2 razor blades (like twin blades) on each razor. So now I'm freaking out. I actually took one apart just to see how it came apart. The two razors were really hard to separate from each other, they had a little piece of plastic in between that held them together. He ate his food both times yesterday and he's acting fine. I checked in his mouth to see if he was bleeding or cut anywhere and couldn't find anything. How long would it take for this to pass? Should I take him to the vet even if he's not showing any signs of anything? Please don't flame me for this, I have already made myself feel bad enough. I even went through the trash last night trying to find what I'd thrown away but my boyfriend took the trash out that had the razor in it, so I really have no way of knowing. Someone please tell me that this has happened to them before so I don't feel like a bad mom. If something happens to him I'll never forgive myself.

So sorry to hear this happened and I can understand why you are in a bit of a panic - I would be too!

Re: Samson might have swallowed a...... You are not the only person that this has happened to. In fact, I was watching a show recently about the most unusual things dogs have injested. The veterinarians were all recounting their most unusual cases. From coins, to large fish hooks, to wedding rings....if a dog could swallow it, it did. Due to the sharpness of a razor, I would also feel more at ease with a quick x-ray. They may not even have to put him under. I would hate to think what it could do on the way out. I am sure you have beaten yourself up enough over this. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Re: Samson might have swallowed a...... Well the soonest I can get him to the vet will be Saturday. Unfortunately, the lady that I am an assistant to is out for at least 2 weeks, she had a hysterectomy on Tuesday. So it would be next to impossible for me to get out of here today or especially tomorrow, being Friday. I'm gonna keep a very close eye on him and his poop and keep my fingers crossed until Saturday. God, I was just bragging about how good he is about not messing with anything. I guess I jinxed myself.

Re: Samson might have swallowed a...... If something happens to him you'll never forgive yourself, but you can't take him to a vet until SATURDAY??? Crossing your fingers is not going to help. If this was my dog, he'd be at the vet getting xrays.

Re: Samson might have swallowed a...... Well there is no way I can leave work today or tomorrow to take him. Nobody else here knows what Property Management is all about. I have already used up my sick/personal days. I can't risk my job.

| Re: Samson might have swallowed a...... Does your vet have evening hours?? You might be able to drop your pup off for xrays and then pick him up the following evening. Just a thought

Re: Samson might have swallowed a...... Is there a chance that you know someone else that could take him? Or maybe drop him off on you way to work and drive him home quick at lunch... just ideas.

Re: Samson might have swallowed a...... It's not as simple as taking him and dropping him off. The vet I take him to is about an hour and a half from here.

Re: Samson might have swallowed a...... Then perhaps a closer vet could just do an x-ray, given the fact this is an emergency situation.

| Re: Samson might have swallowed a...... I envision a razor blade slicing its way through the digestive tract and intestines. I can't imagine why you have waited so long. If it cuts the intestine your dog will die while you are debating on whether to wait and let it pass through the system or if you can get him to the vet. The dog should have been at ANY vet within minutes of determining that it swallowed a razor blade. What on earth are you thinking?
