Re: Help, cut nail to far

Do you have the quik stop? If not, have a friend watch your dog, and go to the vet and get some.

Re: Help, cut nail to far

I know its hard but PUT ON A SMILE and pretend nothing is wrong, she needs to know it will be okay, can you wrap her paw with gauze until you can get something to stop the bleeding?

The less of a nightmare today is for her, the less trouble you'll have along the way. My girl likes to move around or pull her leg while I am clipping, but I take my time, and relax. Best of luck.

Re: Help, cut nail to far

Yes, but can you have someone watch her?? Or have someone else go pick it up... this will stop the bleeding instantly.....

Re: Help, cut nail to far

Just put some direct pressure on it for 10-15 minutes.

Have someone show you how far to clip so it doesn't happen again.

Re: Help, cut nail to far

Do you have Baking soda or flour in your house? You can use that. Take some and put it on her nail. The next time your out pick up some Kwik Stop but for now to stop the bleeding use the flour or baking soda.

Re: Help, cut nail to far

I can not believe how much blood came out of her little toe. I have never sean my girl act like this. She is acting like she did something wrong. hiding in the dog house, covering her head. I keep telling her its ok and giving her treats. but its not working

Re: Help, cut nail to far

Don't make a big deal about it. It happens to the best of us. I clipped Moka's nails to short once and she got so upset and I gave her treats and played tug of war and she forgot all about her pain. Make sure to pack the flour onto her quick.

Re: Help, cut nail to far

Well, it hurts! Have you ever cut your own fingernail too short? I'm sure she didn't expect that from you, so she's hiding. It sounds like you cut it really short, but it was an innocent mistake. Don't baby her over it.

Re: Help, cut nail to far

The more Chase is running around, the more it will bleed, slowing her down, lowers her blood pressure, thus slowing the bleeding. How's it going now??

Re: Help, cut nail to far

My advice is to put the dog in her crate, leave the house, get in your car and go somewhere else for a couple of hours. All she needs to do is sit still for a few minutes and the bleeding will stop. All of the fuss and agitation has convinced her she's had a near death experience. A hard-hearted vet would just say "It's a long way from her heart" and continue trimming the rest of the nails.
