Unhappy Hip Dysplasia

Hello: I am the owner of my second Rottweiler named Fura, she just turned 1 on 2/29/04, yep thats leap day. So right from the start she is special, well at 6mos of age she started walking kinda funny, almost like our other Rott did which later was diganosed as "growing pains". With the worry always on my mind of hip dysplasia the truth was told yesterday after a vet appoinment, Fura does have it. Bad and in both hips, surgery will be required to fix it. They do not suggest that we have surgery till she is at least 6 mos older. What I am wondering is if anyone has had been through this or has heard to make this a little easier on our whole family. She is my son's sidekick, the two are never more then 3 feet apart at all times. I cannot ponder the thought of having to put her down. Thanks.

Re: Hip Dysplasia

What kind of surgery are they suggesting that they want to wait another 6 months?
Do a google search of TPO surgery (triple pelvic osteotomy) it is a hip surgery that corrects severe hip dysplasia, but it must be done before there is too much damage to the hip socket, usually best done BEFORE the dog is 12 months old. My dog was 8 months when diagnosed and it was too late in onehip and we caught the other in time.
If you haven't seen an orthopedic surgeon for this diagnosis and discussion of surgery, I would do so now for the best options for your dog.
