Lightbulb My Rescue rottie's entropic eye lids

My 5 year old Banche has been with us for a year now and has proven herself to be a wonderful member of our family. We feel as if she was turned in to the Humane Sociey due to her entropic eye lids (the eye lids turn inward so that the eyelashes rub the corneas). She looked pretty bad when we got her as she had just had both eyes surgically repaired. Well, this January, her left eye began showing signs of recurring entropion. She had a repeat surgery and is no longer blinking and squinting. Her pretty brown eyes look straight at you when she smiles! I just wish I could let the old family who had her first, know how very much she is loved now.

My vet took her stitches out last week and he grinned as he came out with her. He said she was "some dog" because she let him remove the stitches w/o any anesthesia. She didn't flinch or put up a fuss. We hope that this will be her last surgery, but you never can tell. We had no 2nd thoughts about the bill--Banche has endeared herself to us all. Has anyone else had this experience of repeat eye surgeries?

Re: My Rescue rottie

My first rescue had entropion. His one eye had already been fixed but the other one needed surgery. We had "both" done, for the eye that was already fixed didn't look right. He came out fine and his eyes were beautiful. My vet did a beautiful job of redoing the botched up first surgery.

Re: My Rescue rottie's entropic eye lids

From what I understand, entropion eye surgeries are done more conservatively to avoid creating the opposite problem (ectropion), and sometimes the surgery needs to be repeated in order to get it just right.

My son did find the previous owner of his adopted dog and even took her for a visit! She got to see her old dog buddy and he came home with a history on her and a bunch of puppy photos to boot. The previous owner was very happy to know she is in a good home.
