Sajan's 8.5 week post-op xrays

Sajan had his post-op xrays done today......without having to be sedated :) His knee is almost totally healed but not quiet. He is allowed to icrease length of walks with less restrictions just no running or jumping for the next 4 weeks then we start rebuilding.

Sounds like you're doing such a good job with him! Good for you and Sajan.

Look out though....just when you least expect it....BOOM! He'll try to take off running and jumping.

I almost had a heart attack when mine did this.

Well, there is some confusion about that right now which I hope to get cleared up today.

I'll bet he's just itching to get going. My Cocker was hard to hold back after a certain point, but we did...for his own good.

Sajan's other knee shows no signs of having any looseness anymore during examination and since Sajan only limped pre-surgery at a full run we don't know if he would still limp on it. We are in a wait and see mode now. In 4 weeks when Sajan is allowed to run, we'll see if he still favors that knee. The surgeon is thinking he won't, he thinks he only had a slight and recent tear pre-surgery and that it may have healed during Sajan's confinement. Sajan's right leg(the one they operated on) was much worse than the left when they did the drawer test, now the left appears stable.

At any signs of still having a problem with the left leg, he will be in surgery ASAP after the 12 weeks is over. The doctor does feel that even if he has healed that leg it will most likely tear again one day considering how active Sajan is but we may not need surgery right now. So we wait and see, which I hate.

Guess I'm confused....was Sajans "other knee" rechecked under sedation? I know you said his Xrays were taken without it....and while that's HUGE...he also knows how to guard, so not sure I'd take that as gospel. It IS possible to have enough scar tissue develop with "rest" that things SEEM stable. In a large active dog like Sajan I'd keep a close eye on things.

Good job with #1. I'd still plan on #2, and be happy if it doesn't have to happen.

I am still going on the assumption that when he returns to full activity he will start limping again. I have the money for that surgery stuck away and it will stay there.
