Lump in chest...worried.

HI everyone.

Kamen is now almost 10 1/2...today while rubbing his chest I discovered a lump (pretty deep, just to the left of his breastbone) about the size of a small lemon. I'm calling tomorrow to get him in.

Other than the cursory check of the spot, will they most likely X-ray? How will they determine the growth's nature? (benign or God forbid the other...). What blood work will be done?

Kamen has several small fatty lumps I've had checked out over the years, but they are much more surface in nature. I'm really concerned, if anyone has suggestions or things I should request at the vet please share them.

You've all been great to us.

Troy

I agree with Larry - don't worry yourself to death (I know, much easier said than done - I've been there). I would imagine they will do a chest x-ray. They may also do a needle aspiration of the lump if possible and if they feel it is necessary. Good luck tomorrow and please keep us posted. My prayers will be with you that it is nothing to worry about.

Re: Lump in chest...worried.

Old dogs are lumpy dogs. We have lumps galore here and they have always turned out to be nothing to worry about. Don't let your imagination do a number on you, chances are really good it will turn out to be nothing.
Best to your boy.

Re: Lump in chest...worried.

I was concerned with our 9 1/2 y/o when I noticed lumps on his rear hips. When I brought him in for a check up, the vet told me that he has "love handles" . It is all a part of getting older, things sag and the body changes.

Try not to worry.

Re: Lump in chest...worried.

I have a 12 year old girl her who is developing new lumps (lipomas) and warts at an alarming rate. I have had a couple of very large warts removed and have all lipomas tested to make sure they are in fact only limpomas and benign.

There is one new one coming up in her right armpit right now and though I am reluctand to put her through surgery at her age, it may eventually interfere with her comfort whilst walking....waiting to see if it grows.
