We had a scare too

Sunday, Cyrus came to work with me and zonked on the couch the whole time. He ate very little breakfast too but I figured he was tired from all the excitement and activity of Xmas Eve and Xmas.

Sunday evening, after driving home through a blizzard, I saw he was squatting to go but nothing was coming. He did this several times and I was very concerned. He turned his nose up at his dinner and water and curled up and slept. It was a BIG snowstorm so I couldn't take him to the vet. I was scared he hoovered something at my aunt's house on Xmas. He was by my side almost the entire time but there were a few minutes he was on his own when I thought he sleeping under the table.

Yesterday morning he had a tiny bit of diarrhea and vomited after drinking water. He still wasn't interested in food.

I dug out my car and drove him to an emergency vet hospital and it turns out he has an inflammation in his colon but no blockage thank goodness!

He ate his ground turkey and rice as soon as we arrived home but still no poop. He slept from 4:00 PM yesterday until 5:00 AM this morning and, even though he hasn't pooped yet, he back to his old goofy self. He is at work with me so I can keep an eye on him.

My goodness, it is incredible how we can worry about our dogs!

Re: We had a scare too

What is the suggested treatment for the inflammation? Any guesses on what caused it and how to avoid it in the future?

Glad to hear he's not blocked, hope he's feeling better soon!

Not sure on her dog but this was one of the very few vet episodes we ever had with my past Angel. She was put on a special diet of Boiled drained hamburger and rice for about a week and I was told it is usually caused by eating something bad that doesn't sit with them. Probably one of them darn squirrels she use to eat........

Exactly!

I think it was the lasagna my mom gave him Xmas Eve. I never let folks feed him because 1) I don't want him to develop the habit of begging and 2) Some folks don't know there are common foods toxic to dogs.

My mom, however, forgot my rule.

I am thinking it was the tomato sauce.

Glad to hear your boy is feeling better. It is no fun at all when they are sick, we worry about them and they cant tell us what hurts.

Re: We had a scare too

sounds like the same thing that Elmo went through a while back, but he was vomiting up everything, every sip of water he took. But he got the same diagnosis....

Glad he is doing better.
